I'm sure he'd need talked into it but wouldn't it be nice if Ivor could be persuaded to take a wee wander over the Swilcan Bridge for an ovation after he sets the last group off for his final Open Championship?

Yes, it would be a lovely sight. The man has become an integral part of the European tour. Several times I have stood next to the first tee at Wentworth and watched players come up to say hello to him. They all look genuinely pleased to see him

I was watching on Friday when Tom Watson was teeing off. Tom gave him a present and they seemed to have a lovely chat about it being the last Open for both.

amazes me that he doesnt eat or go to toilet during the entire time! amazing. especially considering most men his age (that i've played golf with) have a p!ss on every hole!

Wonderful to interview him as he has announced the last pair - deserves all his accolades

Wonderful man

You know what I mean. Like anything in life where someone has been so iconic. The new incumbent is on a hiding to nothing and has to somehow do it their own way (not sure how you do that reading out names)

The new starter has a pretty easy job, its not a show and despite the relationship Ivor had with the players it will make no difference to the next incumbent working as starter at the Open

What do you think will be so difficult that suggests they're on a hiding to nothing, the players will ignore them, wont pay attention, arrive late to the 1st tee!

You think folks will criticize the starter for not being Ivor

I loved hearing Ivor's voice as part of The Open but nobody will fail to show becasue he's giving it up
