Apparently this is his last Open Championship. Will be a shame that the familiar Scottish lilt and the "on the tee......" will no longer be a part of the Open. Mind you, he stands there all day and apparently doesn't even go for a loo break! Has done every open since 1975.

He is 75 though so fair play to him!

(His last European Tour tournament will be the DP World Tour Championship in November)

Like Ivor a lot, real character, he was taken ill half way through a tournament earlier in the season and missed half a dozen events.

I wish him a long and happy retirement

I'd love to record his voice and add my name in there. Then play it in on my headphones as I walk onto every tee.

Sorry to see him go. Stood near him a couple of years back at the Johnnie Walker so I could listen into his patter in between tee offs. What a gent he was to everyone who walked on the tee.

I marshalled at the World Matchplay at the London Club and he was there on the second day, the story was that he missed the first day because no one told him that it started on Wefdnesday instead of the usual Thursday!

I did get to meet him and he was charming

Nice to see Tam Watson giving him a little gift there. Watson is an absolute gentleman, in his last Open he thinks of someone else almost as famous as him.

I'll second that.

Indeed, just a shame he's unlikely to receive his ovation on Sunday looking at his score.

Come on Tom, prove me wrong.

That's a quality story!

Sad day in that Ivor has now uttered those familiar words: "On the tee....." for the last time.

Andy Sullivan the privileged player to be his last introduction.

Some shoes to fill for whoever does the job from now on.

I met him at the World Matchplay at the London Club last year and he was a proper gent! I hope he has a long and happy retirement!

He is probably a very nice guy who was in the right place at the right time and good luck to him in his retirement.

However he's done it for too long. Old farts (of which I'm one) need to move over to let younger people into these positions there is too much of an 'old guard' that stumble on and on in the world of golf which doesn't help the fuddy, duddy view of non-golfers and younger potential golfers.

This is an example of a job that should be rotated and not be the monopoly of one person.

I think you're overestimating his role. He is only an announcer at the tournaments. Bringing in someone who is supposedly more trendy or more in your face is unlikely to change peoples' general perceptions of the sport. It'll need much more than that.

However, Ivor Robson was a familiar voice who did a job very well, with minimum fuss, seemingly aware of his position in the grand scheme of things. It is the familiar character that people will miss.

Ivor has reduced the amount of tournaments he has done over the years anyway - was a really great bloke and did the job with grace and humility and was clearly very well respected - enjoy your full retirement
