And so - in the spirit of the love and friendship we share here ;) - how did you meet your partner...and in the interests of totally PC inclusivity - maybe 'partner' should cover your best buddy of you don't have a partner at the moment or ever...

And so to me and my dearest...

My dearest got a card today - 30yrs to the day after we met. And I got a card from her. That'll do.

We were both are at a Valentine's Day engagement party 14th Feb 1988. That we were both there was a coincidence due to the Valentine's Day party (our group's excuse for another piss up) becoming an Engagement Party on the day - with my mate Bill popping the question to Lizzie first thing. And Lizzie's pal was Sarah - and Sarah's best pal was my dearest.

And so - it came to pass - at about midnight - we find Sarah and dearest in deep conversation - Sarah has been trying hard all evening to get off with my mate 'Clint' (not his real name); dearest is bored and wants to go home. Sarah asks if there is absolutely no-one that she might dance with? Moments later Sarah is disturbing my contemplations on life, as I prevent a radiator from falling off the wall and I sup a beer - on my tod. 'See the blond girl over there - d'you fancy dancing with her for a bit?'. And sensing the need for a good deed to be done I agreed.

And 30 yrs later...

It's not always been super (life isn't after all) - but there have been plenty of good times and two children; we've stuck at it and are still together and - with thoughts of retirement in mind - lots of good things on the horizon and being planned.

Rewind to my 20th birthday, and my first day of a new job, back in 1978. A blond 18 year old lass comes and sits at the engineer's table at lunch time and starts talking to the people she knew there and, brashly I thought, said "who are you." She thought I was snobby and aloof, I was shyness personified back then, and I thought she was pushy and brash.

The world continued to turn and, although we worked in the same building, we rarely spoke to each other. Time moved on and we found the love of our respective lives, or so we thought. 13 years later, after both our marriages had failed, we got together. And 3 years after that, in '93, we married.

Juggling previous relationships, access to children, and putting together a new home didn't come easy. And both being a little fiery occasionally there were bumps in the road. But we're still in one piece, and we still hold hands when were out walking. We do loads of things together, and more and more as time moves on and we find more things we both like. As we've grown older we haven't grown apart and, if anything, we've continued to grow closer.

First met my missus at a house party we held when I lived in a flat with some other lads - about 9 years ago when I was 22. She was 19. We didn't get together until a couple of months later though, she was a friend of a friend so I often saw her down the pub we used to go most weekends. Not much of a romantic story really.

Mine was begging for money when I met her. She actually worked for the Nationwide across the precinct and they had run out of cash. The banks were all unable to help and her last throw of the dice was ringing the Post Office where I was manager. Handed over a large sum of money and we went from there.

Heard her talking about going to Florida next to me at a bar in Covent Garden. I said I was just about to go out there too. Talked briefly, swopped phone numbers, played telephone tag for a few weeks whilst we were both away and then met up one Friday night. Nearly 20 years later .......

Aaaah - that's nice story Brian. Life's swings and roundabouts have had us near and far - but as we approach retirement I sense a bit of growing closer - most of the time :)

Ah - the House Party - like us. Though I didn't mention our meeting was in a house party it was - right next door to our local pub (The Kenny in Redland for those who know Bristle) :)

She must have been very convincing and/or very attractive for you to believe that one.. My bank/building society has run out of money - can you lend me some :)

The good old 'earwigging' opening...top listening sir!

We both started work in the same office on the same day. Was a small but friendly team & we all used to socialise together a bit. Me & she became quite close without being involved. Careers moved on but we stayed in touch - occasionally went for a drink together, or the pictures, or even the odd day out. All perfectly platonic. We became best mates - and confided about girlfriends/boyfriends - and we were someone to whinge to or a shoulder to cry on. Then after about 5 or 6 years, on a day out to Hastings (of all places), we were walking along the seafront and realised we were doing something we'd not done before - we were holding hands ...

30 years on she's still my best mate and we still hold hands .

So you never made it out of the friendzone? Or did I misunderstand?

Yes, sucker for a pretty face and 23 years on she's still asking for money although no longer for the building society.

I met Mrs Drewster on my 30th birthday which happened to be a Monday night in early December. I actually had a "bit of a do" on the preceding Saturday which ended badly with me getting carried out at about 10 o'clock after having far too many aftershocks !!! I was aware that our cricket pavilion had been hired out by Going Places Travel Agents for their annual Christmas Party on the night of my 30th birthday and having had a shocker on Saturday I wanted to celebrate my birthday so me and a couple of mates thought we'd go up and have a look. We were cricket club members after all and it would be rude not to. Well we opened the door and it was wall to wall female travel agents !!!! After having to literally peel off a few horrors I eventually got talking to Mrs Drewster and the rest is history. We met for lunch the day after and got married on the 5th November less than 2 years later.

Handy not having to organise fireworks for the event - and you get fireworks every year :)

Bit like my dad having his birthday on 21st April - same day as Queenie. Always used to tell us how they played the National Anthem in the morning just for him. We knew better - but he persisted...:)

My dad's birthday is 21st April as well!

Met my wife on a student night out at uni. Groped her arse, had a dance and ended the night snogging her face off.

Fourteen years and three kids later, I still enjoy groping her arse and snogging her face off.

Not so sure my pulling technique is too advisable these days though!!! :D:D:D

I did the cardinal sin of getting together with my best mates little sister! Sounds weirder than it is, but i have known my wife since she was 5 years old. We got together when she was 17 (2000 ish) and we have been married 10 years, together for 18 which is over half her life! she is a lucky thing and i remind her of that daily.
