Hi all, first time poster. Thought I'd open up with a sympathy vote LOL!

14 of us off to Belfast Thursday (flights permitting). Four days a year all I ask is for some decent weather. What do I get? Forecasts for 35mph winds and snow, snow, snow.

Anyone else got any plans being spoilt by the weather this week?

And if you've got a tip or comment for the following courses (Galgorm Castle/Royal County Down/Templepatrick or Royal Belfast) let me know. Anything to help me win this year's Champion Golfer trophy!!

Cheers

Funny, Im heading the other way, leaving belfast early friday morning and heading to scotland for a weekends golf!
Galgorm has lots of room and water, straight drives are good but accurate seconds are paramount as some holes have water over the back that you cant see. The second hole is drivable if the wind isnt into your face, dont go too far left as it is more akward than the right side should you be short.
Royal County Down, no amount of advice will help you there, its a cracking course and the wind will just make you concentrate more.
Templepatrick is another good course, plenty of water also on some of the holes. First couple of holes are birdie opportunities, the third (par5) is a pain in the arse, less than a driver up to the water then a good second to get you anywhere near the green. 11th par 3 is all water to the right from teebox to the green, lined with trees along the left haha. the 18th is the best hole on the course. Unless madly down wind a 5 wood to the waters edge and a second shot over a rather large lake with the hotel behind.
Royal Belfast has some of the fastest greens in the UK nevermind Northern Ireland, at this time of the year they might be a little more forgiving though. Jim Eager is the head green keeper and is a gent but has a sadistic streak and prides himself on the greens. There are a few hard holes but its certainly not as difficult as RCD.
If you have time or need to switch courses, give Belvoir a try (pronounced beaver), it is a fantastic parkland course in South Belfast.

Yes mate, fix your pitchmarks at Galgorm please!!!

:D

1, Play safe, it is a very tough par 4 with a dogleg right, if you dont have a good shot to the green, dont force it, oob right, long and very deep rough left.
2, Hit the green off the tee, or right side of fairway, if the greens are quick, as they have been, anything from the left will filter to the bunker.
3, straight forward short par 5.
4, take an extra club to carry the river.
5, Par 3
6, hit the fairway left side to avoid being blocked out by the tree on the right!
7. hit more club than you think
8, play safe off the tee, the water is reachable off the green tees.
9, good driver and you can hit it in 2
10, aim for the large tree on the left to have a good second shot, if you are long enough it is worth going for in 2 as not much trouble round green.
11, be happy with a 5!
12, green filters to front right
13, oob all down right into the river 3 wood off tee leaves mid iron though.
14, par 3, dont go long as if ground is hard you can bouce through into river
15, play safe down the middle as trouble left and right
16, lots of room on fairway, try and leave a short iron as approch is tight!
17, off the backs it very long, but loads of room, and approach is down hill.
18, aim for the right hand bunker with a draw if poss, get there in 3, it is very tough to get there in 2 off the back tee.

Enjoy it mate, sorry for the long post!!
