Fragger is miffed

We had to forego our normal friday jaunt around Aylesbury Park owing to scenes not unlike that Friday at the recent Ryder Cup.

So Imurg and I decided to pop over to Aylesbury Golf Centre at Bierton to have a range session.

Duly got our buckets of balls and plomped ourselves right in front of the range markers, Nobody else there, we had the place to ourselves.

Decided to do some short iron and wedge work and I normally hit my PW about 100 yards dead and my 52 about 65/70 ( I know there is a gap and im looking at a 50 to fill it)

anyway My shots were all falling well short of the markers, ok there was a slight wind towards me, and some rain and they were range balls, but it wasnt right.

So as we were the only ones there, i took out my trusty sky caddie and measured the markers, GUESS WHAT

The 50 yard marker was at 66 yards and the 100 yard marker was at 108

Now what is the point of having a flippin great sign saying 50 and putting it out at 66,

Guys who pay money to practice there will aim to hit a certain length which is inaccurate and then take that to the course,

Total complete bunch of idiots who will be first against the wall when the revolution comes.

There was nobody about to complain to, so I phoned the pro shop later, the guy sympathised but said that the Centre Manager was the guy to speak to, he would tell him i called, but unless it came from me, the manager wouldnt take any notice

What sort of a half arsed place is this?

has anyone else come up against obviously incorrect markers?

Given that range balls are rubbish, I don't suppose it matters.
Most will just try to carry the end fence with their drivers anyway.

Must admit the few times i have ever been to a range, i didn't for one minute think the markers might be accurate. Always assumed they would be on the short side, to make people think they are hitting it further than they are.

All the time, take our course for example. I know i can carry my drive 300 yrds, yet on our 2nd par 4 around 400 yards long, im often told that im still 150 yards in,

bloody markers have to be sorted :D ;)

I always hit the netting on the full, mind you it was the side netting after a J Arthur.

I always use my laser to measure yardages when I practice. You never know where they measure the markers from so I like to be sure.

Our range is really good with regard to markers.

They have a sign in each bay giving you the exact distance to all the targets, from THAT bay. It makes such a difference to you're practice, especially with wedges and short irons.

The pro's painstakingly measured them all with a rangefinder from each bay and created individual signs.

Now that's good :D

There is a wee range and cafe just north of Kirkcudbright that had the most ridiculous yardage markers, they were so far out it was almost amusing. 150 marker was more like 200.

ThHe problem with the range I use is the guy has measured it in metres and so they are 100 metres, 150m etc and I'm crap at conversion back to yards so never sure how far each one is. All I try and do is give myself two targets left and right (size of a green width or fairway depending on the club I'm hitting) and go for accuracy (7/10 with each club) rather than distance. On the practice ground at my club I tend to use the SC and work back from each flag to find the spot to hit from

Oh Bro of mine. AGC isn't even half-arsed. It's the rash on the pimple of the half-arse to which you refer.
The only reason to go there is to beat balls

Chesfield range is spot on Westy, I did use the one at aston but they use mixed balls so didnt feel confident of having any consistency (not that I do anyway so any help with the white round things helps)

nearly joined there this month but waiting till spring

To be honest I dont work on yardages at the range due to hitting off astroturf with ball bearings which does not replicate course conditions. I am only trying to swing correctly and hit the ball straight.

It is one of the best in the area. But you do pay for it though !

Just wish they had a few grass bays as well.
