so another range session tonight and think out of 100 balls I hit maybe 5 or 6 iffy ones. Even the driver is starting to behave. Lesson booked for Wednesday and 1 more before the KoK London meet on the 30th (paid my tenner so might aswell chop it around). Must thank Iain ICYGolf Clarke for his little pointers on Saturday regarding tempo, it really felt good tonight.

New ICY wedges Saturday then its short game, short game, short game with 2 nights at the range a week and started putting on carpet every night aswell. Not joining a club was the best move for me I think as its given me the impetus to really sort the swing and overall game out without worrying about playing at the weekend for handicap.

Anyone else on a uber swing campaign and feeling positive yet? (Murph will probably be along shortly)

And before anyone says... I know practise isnt the same as playing but I was playing and not practising and going nowhere.

Just back from a lesson. Work on posture having some positive effect with more room to swing. Driver though a different matter. Struggling to keep it in the same time zone and right going right. Have the drills. On the plus side, it is starting to come and feeling very happy. Short game showing a few positive signs too. Only played once so far in 2014 so early days to see how it plays

Great news Gibbo. I am a practicing nutter, I love it and it's starting to help, I just have to check myself and make sure I am learning not just hitting.

The swing is great, I am just trying to control the swing and ball, no thought on power, I just want to hit my yardages. A simple thought with some controlled tempo goes a long way.

Good to see you've got some focus back on what your trying to achieve.
How are you keeping your handicap active if your not playing a course?
Really looking forward to seeing your wedges, unfortunately Iain could not
do anything for me,im miles away.

I would do more Alex but range balls arent cheap :(

doesnt help being in a new build either as the garden is a postage stamp so can only practice chipping into a recycle tub lol.

Was really working on tempo tonight and probably swinging at about 80% of normal and much better strikes and same distance. Different on the course with dodgy lies etc but still got to put a swing on it so would rather one I will eventually trust than the one which was hit/miss/crap :D

I played my last comp in December but couldnt afford it tbh after chrimbo so didnt renew as payment was due 1st Jan (stupid time for renewal imho). I might be rejoining in the Summer, they are a small club so gave me a bit of flexibility for personal reasons so all good.

There is no substitute for being out on the course in my opinion chaps. Hitting off a perfect lie is all well and good at the range, we can all stroke it well there, but when the ball is sat down, hanging lie, then it's a different ball game. Quite literally. I wouldn't go mad on range sessions without tempering it with some practice on the course, just social games with friends rather than the pressure of scorecard in hand.

That said, good luck with it all and if you're changing things radically, more power to you for having the courage, but make sure you're enjoying it, otherwise what is the point. None of us are ever going to make a living out of it. Dad rant over. Lots of love x

still playing odd rounds with mates just wanted to bed in changes for a few weeks 1st as I know from past experience I tend to revert back if the changes arent working on the course.

my CDH is 1009173999 and its still showing as active PJ :p

Yeah I am going for massive improvements this year too. I have been told by a couple of people my set up and posture is solid and looks like a cat 1 golfer until I move :)

Just working on 3 things for a better more controlled back swing and transition then hopefully rhythm and timing will bring the rest together. There is nothing wrong with range work and chipping greens but don't forget the game is about getting the ball in the hole in the least amount of shots so keep playing as and when you can and put your new swing into practice.

easy on you, you'll make us all look worse than normal at ICC in July lol

good work tho, been working on easing my hook, getting there.... slowly lol

hope you can take it to the course Gibbo.

I rarely go to the range but I play 4 or more time a week, even managed to keep that up through the winter. I do however have lessons and they appear to be paying off with me shooting several rounds this year of 6 or 7 over. Whether I can even get near those figures in comps however remains to be seen.

Wow, I knew it wasn't going well but how on earth did you get your handicap that high?
Good luck with the new swing and keep up the good work.

Got a lesson for next week, been a while since i had one but I feel now that I have everything sorted that needed to be. Hopefully we can work on improving my swing more or possibly work on some short game/putting.

Not going with a set plan as ill see what the pro sees and thinks i should work on. My game is coming along nicely swinging better and playing better overall. Struggling a bit still with the driver but I think i sorted that out with face angle at address but need to wait till next time out to fully test it.

Great news Steve, I had two lessons over the winter and I feel a lot more positive on the course as a result. With my course being closed for much of the wet season I have been playing another course not too far away, in 10 rounds my scores ranged from 35pts to 46pts, so I'm reasonably happy. Today I scaped 43points (82net/par 71) with two double bogeys, so room for improvement.

Keep up the good work and I hope to see you on the course soon

FT thats banditry of the highest order 46 & 43 points!!

Louise I wish I could play 4 times a week but working 6 days a week at the mo so 100 balls 2 or 3 times a week after work is the best I can muster anyway, better than doing nothing.

Andy.... sod off :p ( I am crap and I know it lol)

i really hope these are shortened courses (and maybe some temps) Rob, otherwise dont forget to get the horse some water :p

Your doing the right thing though mate. You have taken most of the playing pressure off yourself for a while and your concentrating on improving your game. You will come back to full time playing with a better game and more belief in yourself.
While your building a new swing why not work on the mental side of the game too. I have over the last 18 months and it's worked wonders on my game. Either read a few books ( I have done a couple of Bobs books) or have a word with our resident golf mentalist. Every string you can add to your bow before you start your membership again is going to help when you get back on the course full time. Going out with the right mental attitude is as, if not more important, than the physical game you have.

Had three lessons over the winter and had some good results so far, woodhall excepted! Feeling a lot more confident. Had to lay off since January as trying to get my college course finished. Should be wrapped up this week so can get back on the wagon, hopefully ready for the season!

Think you've taken a good course of action G1bbo as having my membership compels me to play when the course is open. This doesn't all ways help when trying to bed in swing changes!

I already have the rotella books on audio cd so listen to them in the van at work. Any other books recommended?

To be totally honest mate no I haven't as my head is in a pretty good place when I'm playing or practicing so I don't geel the need to read any other books at the moment.
I know there are a few others that have been recommended on here but can't remember the name of the thread. Certainly worth having another ask.
