Oh, the joys of having time off -

1. Spent most of the last two days fixing my mum's laptop....
2. Spent an hour on boxing day learning how to root my new phone to remove *interesting* apps pre-installed by orange so they can bill you extra on your data plan...
3. Wasted a couple of hours setting up two apple id accounts for only one iPad, one with and one without a credit card (one for my daughter and one for me, the right way around I hope!)

Is it me, or is all the new technology just another opportunity to take the ****

I mean, £40 for anti-virus when microsoft give it away free? an unremovable app on a mobile that bills you?
My brother in law found his 8 y.o. ordering tokens or something for REAL money for an iPad game?

Grim...
 
I agree. I shudder to think how much crap is on people's computers because they know no better.

What was the app Dave? My missus has a relatively new Orange smart phone but I've not paid much attention to it.
 
traffic tv. My missus had a problem with it and orange are aware....
She won't let me root her x10 to get rid of it, not until her contact expires. I just took mine off using titanium from the app store after using an automated rooting app. I plan to unroot it back when I get home for long enough.

however on the flip side, it's the techy geeks that have caused the problems in the first place:whistle:

I agree, but sadly we had a few problems with passwords, which meant re setting and replying to email and all that junk.

LOL. This kind of highlights the problem though - unless you understand stuff like this you are at the mercy of the sharp practices of the companies that hold your bank details and don't give a damn for morals and decency.

I know some people who left this forum because of the change in technology... ;)

I must be getting old because technology worries me. I don't like these new routers. Why is there no wire connecting the router to my laptop? How does the internet reach my laptop from the router? I can get the internet upstairs on my laptop when the router is downstairs. How does that happen?

It worries me because yesterday we had a fly in the front room and I sprayed some RAID. Will that stop the internet from getting to my laptop from the router? :(

You've clearly never tried it and, thus, never really lived!

One spray on offending fly and you can watch, for a good few minutes, a Diptera thrashing around widely as it goes through a chemical induced mental breakdown.

That's how I get my kicks... :p

How much training does it take to say "have you turned it off and then back on again?" lol

We had a new diagnostic computer at work, when it came it had to have loads of updates, every time it connected to the internet it downloaded more updates to the diagnostic software. Until it wouldnt activate itself properly. We had to wait 3 days for an Italian diagnostic chap to carry out remote repair by internet link with an interpreter on the phone. He then said it needed to be sent to Italy as he couldnt fix it. Waiting for it to get to Italy for a techie to kick it and make it work.

Only tech guys I know read from a sheet of paper once they get to the bottom its errr sorry its broke!

We will replace the hard drive................ !!!!!!

Hmmmm the wonders of a fresh install!:whistle:
