Hi everybody . Has anyone ever played golf on Arran? Im thinking of going over in the summer months and wondered what the courses are like. Ive heard of shiskine and lamlash but cant find much info/reviews of the other courses.
Cheers

Brian - I went a few years ago and asked the same question so try a search. You must play Shiskine, the others are all fun...can't remember where we played but will post again when not out and about.

Definitely worth a trip.

Yes loads of fun, Shiskine is a must and Corrie is spectacular as well, not so much for the golf and for the scenery. Arran is great fun for all the family so I'm sure you'll have a great time.

i've visited arran several times and never tire of the place, scenery is stunning.

none of the courses are long and you look at the cards sometimes and think you can rip it apart but it never happens (not for me anyway !). the views from all of them are fantastic. even if playing crap, find it impossible to get annoyed given the surroundings.

shiskine is breathtaking, of the three 18 holers i'd say lamlash slightly better than whiting bay and brodick for me, corrie is only 9 holes but you'd have to go a long way to find a prettier course.

played lochranza when it was 18 but think is now just a 9 hole and haven't played machrie yet which is another 9 holer.

if you go, enjoy.

echo all of the above- just to add they are hilly and usually have sheep on some, but take a camera as you'll be hard pressed to get more dramatic pictures on a golf course.

Been to Arran many times, you'll enjoy playing wherever you decide to play. Personally I'd miss out Lochranza, not a great course but great views. Shiskine is a must, some tremendous holes there and superb views on a clear day. Lamlash is good, hilly, lots of par 3s but a good test of golf non the less. Brodick is good in dry weather, but does suffer after lots of rain. Not a linbks course but more a cross between links and parkland. Corrie is stunning for its views along. Some great wee holes and a good tea room as the starters office. Whiting Bay has one of the worst par3s I've seen, it my be 15 or 16th, a dead elephant is buried under the green and can throw the ball anyway off the green.

All in all, a great place to play some fun golf, give yourself time to take in the views wherever you play. It'll be worth it.

Went there in October and loved it, my mate has a caravan which looks over the Holy Isle, we played Shiskine twice and Whiting Bay which is never great if your hung over as its a climb but cracking views, Lamlash has a very friendly clubhouse as we stopped for a beer, its like the land that time forgot but can't wait to go back this year.

Cheers everybody for the info. I was over at arran for the night during the week but never botheres taking the clubs. A few of my mates and myself have been playing around 16 months to two years so none of us are looking for anything too hard . I quite fancy a day trip during the summer, Im think shiskine then another 9 holer after lunch . The hillwalking looks good as well , the scenery is brilliant. Thanks everyone

My first ever round of golf took place at Lochranza on a school geography field trip in 1981!

It was also home to my first ever golf holiday 30 years ago. Played them all except Brodick and loved every minute.

Personal favourites would be Shiskine, as others have said, and Corrie because the views are simply magnificent.

Also really enjoyed the nine-holer at Machrie Bay on the west side of the island. Seem to remember we went round five times in one day. Quite giddy by the end! I also have photos somewhere of me wearing what appears to be a Southampton football shirt while playing there.

I remember the hole DCB mentions at Whiting Bay too - seem to remember them calling it their very own Valley of Sin - or was that a different hole?

Anyway, very fond memories!

Where are you based briannn?

Keep an eye on the Arrange a Game section on here. There may be an Arran trip planned in the summer. Another option is to head to play Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae. They have a few opens during the summer that some from here head over to play.

I have played a few of the courses on Arran and love it over there.

Hi - all the courses on Arran are super to play - all very different, too! No sheep anymore though….!

Check out the Arran Golf Pass (only £99 to play once on all seven courses, plus 250 balls on the driving range). There's details about the Arran Golf Pass and also images of every hole on each course, both summer and winter, at www.golfonarran.com, or check our own website for details of other things to do for the non-golfer, on your day off the course! www.visitarran.com

Cheers!
