Golf is a great game im sure we all agree, however frustrating as well,do you think its all about enjoyment or winning,i dont think theres anything beter than beating your mates and rubbing it in then taking there £2 what do you think?

Yes and no. I love playing well. If I shoot a cracking score, and lose, I don't care. If I play like a donkey and lose, then I get grumpy. But a win is a win, regardless of how you played, as the other guy must have played worse.

I have to say i'm on the fence with this one with regards to Golf. In every other sport I play I need to win.....but for some reason with golf I get just as much satisfaction from being out myself pottering around as i do winning or losing against the lads.

Thats the REAL beauty of this brilliant game.....

As long as I am beating or getting close to my best scores then I am happy, if I then beat my playing partners then all the better.

Beating myself is the most important victory for me.

100% no.

Will try my nuts off to make sure I do win but if my best isn't good enough on the day it's not the end of the world.

If I play well and get beaten then I'm still happy but play like a muppet and get turned over and then I'm a grouchy old sod. My dad always said that whatever sport you played you had to play to win. If you succeed win with humility and if you get beaten then lose with good grace. I hope I stick to his philosophy with golf in particular.

Mind you nothing like making a few quid off your regular cronies on a Saturday

I'm with Smiffy and Largsgolf on this one.

Winning was everything in my previous sport.

I would always prefer to do my (our) best and even if we missed the chocolates, then that was okay because we got beat by the better team that day. If however we lost because of some simple error, then I wouldn't be happy.

The only good result was, sailing well equals first place. And I made damn sure that we didn't get beat!

Golf on the other hand, I've not been playing for 30 years like my last sport, and I have no influence what-so-ever on what the competition does on the track. Unlike yacht racing. So I just play against myself and the track. Though I do miss having a direct influence on the track like I did in racing.

I always, always play to win, but also enjoy the exercise and the craic if I don't, so long as I play reasonably well. Like Homer, I'm a miserable git if I play badly - according to HID and the kids!!

I always play to win but if I don't then as long as I've enjoyed the game I'm happy - however if I ever lose to Fragger, even if I've broken par, I will not be happy!!
