just popped into my local range at branston golf club as i'd heard they've been refurbished. i noticed their range balls where a bit pricey but hey! i asked about out lessons and they give me a leaflet. you have to pay for your balls durring the lesson!!!!!! so basicly add £5 to the lesson. i've never seen or heard of this before. have you? i wont be having a lesson there on principle. its like a driving instructor asking you to pay for his fuel at the end of a lesson

Ridiculous! Never heard of that before! In fact I was always provided with a token to use for a warm-up.

Tell the Pro(s) that's why you won't be having lessons there!

Nope. As many as I want to warm up and then Pro V1's in the lesson (range staff have to separate them out)!

If the lessons are very cheap though then perhaps that's why?

this!

I hate being nickel and dimed, he will lose custom.

When I book a lesson with my pro and turn up early I'll get given a voucher for the ball machine so that I can hit some free balls to warm up while I wait for my lesson. Balls during the lesson are included in the price and if I have my son with me then he'll normally be given a bucket of balls to hit for free while he waits for me as well.

EDIT - I think this is called customer service.

And it certainly leads to customer loyalty as I will buy all my golf stuff from gloves and balls to new clubs from him due to the service he gives.

I always arrive early for my lessons and get a token for a warm up basket. I'd never paid for a bucket of balls for my lesson and frankly never would. I'd be telling the pro that and then be looking for a new teacher if he didn't change the policy

Heard of it in the US - but usually when using premium balls rather than range balls. At £25 for 1/2 hour or £40 for an hour, adding range balls to your fee does sound a bit of a cheek to me.

I've never paid for balls hit to warm up, have the lesson or even, sometimes, a bucket to groove a change afterwards.

That is seriously stingy, I would never pay for balls during a lesson, I would be taking my business elsewhere. Is it any wonder some ranges/courses/pros are struggling for customers.

On the flip side of this, I played a fantastic local course on Monday, got the green fees for a third of the normal price from Golf now, when I asked the pro would he mind regripping my putter he happily did so and wouldnt take a penny off me for it, brilliant customer service.

I'll never understand why companies/people don't just include unavoidable charges in the price - why not just say it's £30 for the 30min lesson it would ruffle far fewer feathers. I don't care what makes up the £30 I just want to know what the change to my bank balance will be!

I'd be tempted to rock up with a bag of practice balls to use rather than the range balls and see what his response is!

I always make sure I get an extra bucket off the pro at the end as well.
