Cheeky girls pic removed ;)

No, not that...

If I am going for a chat about membership (which I am really interested in) before I have played the course, is it cheeky to see if I can get a free or discounted round?

Some will let you play as a sweetner. One I nearly joines down here would take the price of the green fee off the subs thereby making it a free round.
I guess it depends how much they need you.

Rehomed thread (cheeky pic!) :)

I wouldnt join a club I had not played at least a dozen times. Imagine playing the course once and it is in good nick only to find that 80% of the time the place is a mud pit.

I would ask for a game though :D

I know its not a mud pit, its about the third best course in the Leeds area.

Not at all, if they want your custom they should at least let you try before you buy, even if it's with a committee member. It happens all the time. :D

I can't imagine playing with a committee member on my first round of a new course, you know I will play like a total hacker, well more than usual.

I think I will change the meeting until next weekend so I can see the atmosphere when its busy and see the club house during the daylight.

i would look and see what you can get a free round and so on,if you are to join the club then they will be happy to give you his
our club you pay the green fees and if you join then they will take the green fee money off your subs

Would you buy a new car without a test drive or move to a new home you hadn't seen?

Go along and ask the relevant questions and then ask for a round whether that's with the pro, committee or just some members and see what its like especially with conditions being as bad as they've been really. You'll get a feel for the course at its potentially poorest state and so if some of hte holes are waterlogged etc you can at least make a balanced decision

I played about 6 rounds free of charge at our place before my membership was actually finalised, I would have had every right to just walk out on the deal. But it's nice to feel trusted sometimes and they took my word that I was going to join.

Definately not and your well within your rights to ask.

If you do get a freebie at least you would've played the course at it's worst possible condition.

Not at all. If you are serious, I'd expect nothing less.

Just be honest with yourself. I could go to a dozen local courses and pretend to want to join, but I wouldn't.

I've never paid for my first game anywhere I've joined.....

(oh, actually that's not true)....I paid to play the Forest of Arden and they moved me to the 2nd course. I played 6 holes and walked off, straight to the car and straight home.
I was too mad to even talk to anyone and decided in the interests of my fury and their health, I should accept the loss of £xx. They 'phoned me the next day to enquire "how it had gone and did I want to join?"

Possibly the most outrageously rude response I've ever uttered in my life followed.....

I still hang my head in shame.

I was offered (didn't ask) a trial round for me and a partner (took my Dad) at my club before joining, to see if I liked it as I had never played there.

I think if you have played the course before then it is a bit cheeky, but if you haven't, then ask for it.
