Is this a good idea?

How much golf will you play this winter relative to the summer?

After hitting these at the range, I'm considering switching my woods out for the Mizuno Fli-Hi range 2 and 3 irons.

If, If, I decided to do this, my bag would look something like:

Driver
2-PW
52*,56*,60* Wedge
Putter.

Gareth, just voted 'no' and feel I should explain my thoughts.
Being a mid teens handicapper, I would have thought you would beenfit more from lofted woods or Hybrids than low lofted irons.
Not many tour pros use long irons nowadays as even they think they are much harder to hit than lofted woods/hybrids.

I would go for the 2iron but maybe junk the 3 for a 5 wood. that gives you scope for a higher shot than the 3iron but keep the 2 for windier days where lower penetrating flights are desirable.

Eh? Most of them carry 3 - pw and thaw mp fli hi 2 iron is nearly the same as a 5 wood at 17/18 degrees.

Go with whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Def the 2 iron.

I just happen to have one for sale in the for sale section. :D

had a 3 iron as well but a mate just took that off me :p

Any more info on why you're tempted? I'm guessing you hit these long irons well at the range, so what are they giving you that might make you swap out the woods?

Personally, I would always want at least one option from the tee other than driver, amd something that offers a higher flight such as a 3 wood.

Also summer's nearly over and the softer ground over the next 6-8 months will put a premium on carry, which is where a fairway wood is at an advantage over a long iron.

Go with whatever you're comfortable/confident with.

What I would say is that you may limit yourself to the type of shots you play with that set up, i.e. low!

I'm currently looking for a higher flying hybrid/3 iron to give me more variety on long approach shots, long par 3's etc as my 2 hybrid goes like a rocket but not very high.

I'd want at least 1 fairway wood in the bag. Even though the 2 iron is 18 degrees you wont hit it as far as a reasonably struck wood. And downwind it's a good idea to have a fairway wood to get the ball up and flying with the breeze.
I have the 4 iron and love it to bits. Tempted to get a 2 iron to go with it but it needs to be the S300 shaft. I can hit my 4 iron nearly 200 yards carry! Ask Aztecs!!

If I were you I would want a 3 wood for an alternative off the tee and then I would personally I would have a 5wood/hybrid but then if you hit a 2 iron well and consistent then you could swap that with the 5 wood :) that's just my opinion of course if you really fancy a 2 and 3 iron then go for it :D

Personally I'd say don't do it. Off a mid-handicap you are likely to hit a fairway wood or hybrid more consistently than a 2 iron and these can be used much easier from heavier lies in the light rough. I'd be looking at dropping a wedge instead and maybe going PW 52 and 58 and giving yourself options elsewhere that way
