I have been visiting this forum for quite a few years and have seen a few changes during that time.

For example, over the last 6 months, it feels like there has been a major increase in the number of threads on Football. I wonder why this is? They arrive daily and generally, are as dull as ditch water. Maybe they warrant their own sub-section of the forum? It could be called "Tales From The Municipal" or similar.

Thoughts?

You mean the threads that are in the Out of Bounds section, where you can discuss no golf related subjects?
You do know that you don't actually have to read the threads that you find dull don't you

Our restaurant of choice for 12ies was modern Anglo-American affair in the suburb of Guildford-on-Wey. The choice was delectable, ranging from an enclosed and saladised Aberbeen Angus meat patty to a Sicilian inspired baguette garnished with garlic infused mayonnaise. All were served with Pomme Frites, made even more palatable as they were served by a super filly dressed in a dark brown cut top, complete with a crownette adorning the words, "Burger King".

Could do better.
Pretty poor attempt at a wind up.

Apologies - must try harder. :)

But it is true, daily football chatter never used to be a part of this forum and I was wondering genuinely if the demographic was changing a bit.

I think its due to the current season being the way it is, tight at the top, close at the bottom, lots of contentious issues etc etc. Also its a world cup year.

Once the Masters starts I am sure it will die down a bit for you Snelly :)

besides the footy season ends in a few weeks, so im sure it will naturally quieten down for ya

There have always been footy threads, just that lots of the previous ones got closed down when they went bad, We havnt had to close one down for a while, so the proliferation is all as a result of the self control and respect shown by forum members.

Nurse is coming with my pills soon :)

Lol. Losing your touch methinks. Maybe you could spend more time frequenting the Subaru owners forum with other like minded individuals.:rolleyes:

I was stunned to discover a thread about Bruce Forsyth leaving Strictly Come Dancing.
Thought I'd wandered onto Digital Spy by mistake!

Oops I Tashyboy is guilty of starting a football blog. Am I apologetic. Nah, I've only been able to brag about me team foe the last couple of years and I'm loving it.

strange thing is my first topic posting was about immigration and the first couple of posts in response had a bit of a pop at me but I genuinely had an interest in people's thoughts.

in 4 weeks time it will go football mental for a week and then football will be history for a few months unless city sign Messi.

Definitely no need to be apologetic. Someone once started a thread wanting people to guess what fast car he'd just bought:o
Turned out to be a Scoobie
True story.

I guess its unavoidable, it is the national sport by all accounts

The thing that never ceases to amaze me is the myopic tribalism of football fans, this is quite clear by the threads on here.

The ongoing rangers chat and the recent Portsmouth thread leave me a bit puzzled. There is some real unbridled hatred when really there is more to unite than divide. There is a real celebration of the downfall of a rival club, when really without one the other has no real identity.

The other thing is the constant moaning about officials. Again without realising mistakes are human nature, add to the theatre and technology if it happens leads to a sanitised version of the previous.

I don't get how football can turn seemingly intelligent people into simple minded, slack jawed fools
