Is there clubhouse in the country not showing the Ryder Cup...

...apart from mine. To tight to pay for Sky.

Ours almost didn't today. They had planned to put us in the events suite that doesn't have the TV but because everyone wanted to watch the Ryder cup they served food etc in the bar which was much better

We havent got Sky....not sure weve got one of those dodgy stick things either.

Mind you...havent been to the club in three weeks now....will see what is on the telly when I play in the medal on Sunday.

Saturday most members want the football results on rather than anything else. although sometimes they switch to the rugby.

Our club made a huge thing of it with a t day comp. First group were in at 11am yesterday and were still posting pics on the group chat at 10 last night from the bar.

Going to be some sketchy opening drives in todays singles,

Two screens in our club. Nothing on today.....fourteen of us huddled round 3 or 4 mobile phones...all with different streams all out of synch with each other.

I remember some years ago people talked about sky costing clubs about £40k per annum.
If true, that’s damned expensive for some clubs to afford.

Club had a 'ryder cup' format comp of 9 hole fourballs and 9 individual with big screen outside for the weekend, US/Italian menu, open air buffet etc. All very well done and lots of fun (y)

Ours is about £2500 and is useful for the club, and as I witnessed on Friday it definitely drew members in this weekend who hadn't been playing and were only there for the beer and golf.

The club often put specials on for bigger events, although this weekend's special of Italian based food seemed to be going down like soggy pasta. Next time stick to the offers on drinks, far more attractive.

We recently cancelled ours, the cost had become ridiculous to be on in the background for 95% of the time
I don't blame them. The Ryder Cup is only once every two years, and I doubt the four majors per year will bring enough bar money in to warrant a yearly subscription to Sky.
