I dont mean think or talk about it but actually put themselves out of the misery? The insanity? The wasting of ones life?
Please speak to me someone who has actually walked away and then said, great, that was the right decision, i have passed my addiction and can now enjoy life again?

yep, for about 4 years, never missed it....... then started again just for a works do about 12 months ago, I've hardly missed a week since!!!

I doubt there's many on a golf forum who'd stay on a golf forum once giving up?

Why do you ask, just out of interest?

I've been thinking of doing exactly that for about a year. I'm still close, but I'd miss the people. The golf? No, I don't think i would miss it at all. I only enjoy playing well, and that's a rare thing indeed.

I'm sure someone on here recently has stopped playing ?

Was it arm chewer ?

Chris, you are forbidden from quitting... we'd miss you too much!

Firstly, do not give in if thinking of it.Remember what you first enjoyed about it, the attraction, the thrill etc,,,bit like the wife, so instead of a date night, just you and the clubs spend a bit of quality time together and get close again..;)

I would dearly like to communicate with someone who recognises this addiction for what it is. A waste of life time for those who cannot play it. Those who have been deluded into thinking they can but have great difficulty in acknowledging that, actually they are wasting their time. Some can some cant. Simples

Don,t think any longer, just do it. Lets join up, form an ex golfers happy club, where contentment and sanity reigns supreme

Smiffy quit a while ago, but I'm not sure how much fun he's had since!
The old boy is still playing, just not as much. Playing with him in two weeks, and he is of course playing at Cooden in his forum meet.

I gave up for about ten years, though I had probably played about three or four times a year the previous 20 years. I had the same persimmon driver at 16 that I had when I started playing again at nearly 50.

I did once. Longest week of my life
I thought you said you gave up for some time when you had a 4 handicap and came back to the game with an 18 handicap.

When I gave up my handicap had gone up to 11 through not entering any competitions. When I started at Blackmoor again years later they generously let me play off 11 again.

Thinking about it at the moment. I have a persistent injury that may take up to 2 years to fully heal. The golf itself has become a chore to be borne rather than the free wheeling fun it used to be. If it wasn't for the great friends I've met over the last few years I'd be done already.
It looks like I've got a few months out anyway with the injury and am thinking of using it to pursue a lifelong goal. IMUK 2015 followed by a few Lakeland Tri's. I need something to waste 20 hours a week on.

Well in true North-West massive style...ok mate, let us know first what ya flogging cheap ;)

Seriously Danny, don't be over-doing it, eager beaver I know, but better to take ya time matey instead of letting ya brain tell ya you can play those 3 or 4 rounds per week.

The thing is that Murph can play the game, exceedingly well at times, he just needs to get form going!
