As I've said before I'm in the market for irons, there is no deadline to buy so want to make the best choice.

So far I have tired Nike VR Full Cavity, TM Burner Plus and Cally Biger Bertha (2008) and (briefly) the X22*

Which models from other manufacturers will fall in this bracket? I'd like the oppotunity to read reviews before I go try more out.

Also, anyone know the difference between the TM Burner Plus, Burner 09 and XD models, they all look very similar to me.

*not strictly game improvement irons I don't think, but the Cally rep throught they may suit me.

Ping G10 or G15 will get the ball airborne and have a good flight. Mizzy MX100, some of the MD range etc will all give you a fair degree of forgiveness. Have you not searched the main site for any reviews on there?

I've had my G10's for a year now and they have been fantastic.

I'm sure the G15's would be just as good. But definitly get them custom fit by a ping specialist.

Oh and if you have been playing a while it might be worth giving the i10\15's a go. I hear they are quite forgiving as well.

Not sure about the XD model. The difference between, the Plus and the 09 is that the 09's are progressive. Which means the cavity, offset, top line and head size are relativly small on the wedges and get larger as irons get longer.

I've had the 09's for a couple of months, and love them. That's changing from the Callaway GBB's which I found very chunky.

Homer, the GM pages are the first place I will be looking for reviews.

Just wanting to quickly rule out the better player models.

Whatever I go for ultimatley I will be going down the custom fit route, although at the demo day where I tried Nike, TM and Cally each time the rep said I was standard length, standard lie.

Love my Mizuno MX200's but the 100's are more the "game improvement" model.
If I were buying new today then I'd still look at them but seeing how well I'm getting on with the Ping woods I'd seriously look at their irons too.
No longer a club for fuddy duddies.
;)

I don't know if the Maltby Playability Factor list will be of any help?

Someone on here brought my attention to this list last year and it gives a rating to each iron set. To say that it cuts through the (confusing) marketing hype of the manufacters, would be an understatement.

I guess at the end of the day go to as many retailers as you can and try as many as possible with an open mind. Clearly bladed and smaller cavity backs are out but there is a whole load out there. Cleveland, Yonex, Wilson, Benross, MD as well as old favs like TM, Cally, Mizuno and Ping. If it helps TG have a big club survey this month and it might at least give you a few ideas and pointers

:) :)

My advice would be to see if you can get hold of the PDF of the current MPF chart.

It lists all the clubs in terms of "type" - Ultra Game Improvement - Super Game Improvement - Game Improvement - Conventional - etc.etc.

I have always used clubs which have rated between about 600-800 on this chart (by chance, excluding some blades I had :)) so if you know roughly what you want (cavities, offset) you'll see all the current irons listed.

Look it up.

Maltby Playability Factor.

I thought it was cow poo until I realised that nearly all my clubs have had a virtually identical rating.....simple, cavity backed, not too offset and not too G.I.

P.S.
to the best of my knowledge X-22 ARE strictly game improvement irons....in fact they are probably in the top 20 most G.I. ever made.

Was just going on what the Callyway rep said - I could well have mis-heard/understood him though.

As for the Maltby Playability Factor list, once I've had a nosey round the forum I will be looking for that.

Cheers guys.
