Rory seems to have a problem sewing up a tourney a la Greg Norman in recent years, the guys very talented lets hope he doesent have the sharks shakes in he's career.

Really clutching at straws now.
I suspect Rory is over the moon today.
3 months ago he looked in terrible trouble,it looked like he had made a bad move equipment wise.
However with £150 million now tucked away over 10 years it seems that it is all rosy in the Rory camp.
To be honest I would love to be in his shoes.
Who knows what the future holds on a golf course for Rory but I suspect there will be a dam
sight more highs than lows.

He should have won - no question. He shot the worst last round of those in the top half of the leaderboard and you don't win doing that.
But he came 2nd.
2nd in a field that included Tiger, Phil and Adam not mention Zach and Sergio too.
And he had a putt to win in regulation play.......
Compared to last year he's on top of the World..

He'll be miffed he didn't win but he will be fairly happy with the week

I think it's a great sign that he's up there - I think he'll win more often than not from that position. Sure, he'll be disappointed, but he'll use that to inspire him rather than letting it demoralise him, that's just the mentality of professional sports people.

I don't see it. He had a bad round yesterday and played over par but so did Henley. But after being dead and seemingly buried he played that approach to the 18th that gave him a chance to win. Despite three bad shots in the play-off hole he still composed himself to make the putt for par.

At the end of 2012 people jumped to the conclusion he was invincible. In 2013 people said he was a flash in the pan and he was written off. This year, excluding the matchplay, he's been in serious contention at every tournament, but people are saying he's got the shakes?

I think we might be a bit premature in labelling him - either just for this year or indeed his career.....

Totally agree!

Last time he had a meltdown like that was in Masters in 2011 and look what happened then! Maybe he's 'timing it right' for this year's Masters! :D

Of course we are too early labelling him on his golf - other than with 'brilliant golfer'. How many would or even could have played that 245yd stratospheric faded wood to the 18th with the pin where it was last night. I leapt from my repose with an almighty WOW!!

Would greg have played the 18th second shot to get himself back into contention like that? Shot of the year so far for me. High cut into the smallest part of a green surrounded mostly by water.. with a wood from 245 with a right to left wind.

Absolutely fearlessly confident. As he pulled that off he will believe that he must be back to believing (if he ever doubted) he can pull off ANY shot that the fates will decree he has to face.

I bet he isn't!!

Apart from that comment, though, I think you're pretty spot on. He's in a much better place than this time last year and a win is coming.

Did you all miss the slammed 5 wood from 245yrds and the resulting putt he had to win ???? (okay he didn't hole the putt but he hit the perfect shot when needed to give himself the chance to win)
It doesn't matter if you win by 10 strokes or 1 and have the worst round of your life. He'll win this season without a doubt and one will be a Major. If coming second doesn't give him the drive to win the next then I don't know what will.

Did anyone see the shot from the bunker he knocked straight into the water?
Just keeping it real.
Yes the shot into 18 was brilliant but there were more lows than highs in his final round especially the back 9 which he needed to close out the competition. I wouldn't tar him with the Shark brush yet but.............

Not sure Norman would have had that 3 wood in his locker let alone taking it on. McIlroy was allegedly a mess last year. I did say I thought all the issues off course with his management had taken its toll but now he has a clear head, he's back to his best. Yes, he should have won, but still had a putt in regulation to do so after a ghastly few holes

Greg Norman was a Great Golfer , Lets not forget that , he had 2 majors taken away from him , one a bunker shot the other a chip and run that they be lucky to do again , so he should have had at least 4 and maybe would have won more as by the end he was just waiting to get robbed . Rory is a very talent golfer and 2nd last night will tell him he is playing great but ...........he come out a better player knowing he has to work harder , I can see him winning a major or two this year , the masters and the open with mickleson winning the US Open so they both complete the slam , ah well back to the real world..................:mmm:

As soon as he gets throught the wall and wins one, I think the flood gates will open again. I know he won in Aus at the end of last year but it wasnt the strongest field and he will know that. But as soon as he wins one with a great field he'll get more confidence and will be back to his best.

I dont think hes anything like Greg, Its just a blip on his way back to the top. As of yet rory hasnt be scared like greg losing the majors. I know he lost the masters but it was more of a melt down but he's showen that he's moved passed it with the US open win.

The shot into 18th was a cracking shot and had me out of my seat, but you could argue the pressure had gone and it was a go for broke shot rather than the suggestion it proved he didn't have the shakes at the end.

I know the last few players didn't score low on the hole, but par 5, I think one of the lowest scoring holes of the tournament and his playing partner leading by one is in the centre of the fairway with the potential to reach in two. He must have been thinking he may need an eagle for the playoff (and wouldn't have cared about water and missing out on 5th place).

He was one shot behind the clubhouse lead, take the easy birdie and tie or go for it for eagle? He can only score for himself so took a gamble and it so nearly paid off. If that isnt pressure, I dont know what is. :)

Maybe, but if it's "take an easy birdie" then presumably he has to assume that Henley (I think that was the playing partner who was one shot lower at the time on 8 under) stood in the middle of the fairway, slightly further than him with a better angle would also get the "easy birdie" to move to 9 under (so 2 ahead of Rory), and therefore it goes back to eagle for a playoff or bust.

Not saying that's necessarily true but it's an interesting dynamic as to whether it was a pressure shot or a shot to nothing (assuming he doesn't care about money for 2nd), and how a player is viewing the situation/probability at that time.
