I've got a Ping i20 driver which has a plain black head with no graphics on it. Would it be legal for me to draw a white line across the top perpendicular to the face to aid me with alignment off the tee?

I do sometimes feel that changing the head end of the club wouldn't help my game that much and I'd be much better off changing the grip end instead. Particularly the tool holding that end of the club.

Add one of these to the grip end...

Not quite, you can't do anything to your clubs that would prevent them from conforming to R&A regulations.

Just out of interest, would a white alignment line be none conforming? (not sayin that your saying it would/wouldn't). To me, it would be no differnt than the alignment lines on a putter.

No, I don't see how it would be illegal. A lot of people put a black line on their 2ball putters, it was later added to the original design as a result.

You could get a screwdriver and score a nice thick line on the top of your driver to aid alignment ;)

Although some of the rules in golf, it would never surprise me !

All you have to do is take something to an extreme in the context of golf and then see whether you think it is reasonable or not - that usually tells you whether you can do it or not. So a line on the top of your driver? - seems OK - but what extreme could that be taken to. If it turns into something that seems 'cheating' then you can bet that something as 'simple' as drawing a line on top of your driver would be illegal. That's how I tend to think about most things 'golf rules related' if I'm not sure.
