Is 14 clubs too many/too few for the amateur

To stop another thread going off topic...

Personally on average I only carry 11 and often I don't use them all (course & situation dependent of course) but then I play off 24 and maybe there is a correlation

I also acknowledge that the more skilled the amateur the more clubs (& shots) they are proficient in using

I think most rounds I could carry 9 with no real impact to my game
(not thinking about the odd fun 5 club challenge games here)

So for you is 14 too many/too few?

I carry 14 and it's a rare occasion that I don't use all of them at least once.
It's been 14 for a long time now so don't really see any need to change it - having more than 14 just gets silly and you can carry less if you want to.
I can't really think of an extra club or two that I'd add if allowed....

I think 15 is perfect, when I played I often had to make a call depending on the course to drop either a wedge or drop a long iron/rescue. To cover all yardages well, 15 does it but 14 is ok.

I have 11 in my bag and cannot really say that I need more. If I was to put another club in the bag it would be a 3w. I could also have another wedge ie 60 degree but as a high handicapper I would cock it up and cost myself shots.

Played golf society last week, 9 holes in the morning was a 4 club comp. 2 scores of 20 and I had 16 with 2 blobs with a 5 wood, 7 iron, 54 wedge and putter in my bag. We have 5 club comps in the winter at my club too and the spread of scoring and winning scores are essentially no different to normal. Bag is a bit lighter too!!

I've got 14 in my bag but two of them are 60 degree wedges. I know there is a feeling from some on here that higher handicappers don't need a 60 degree wedge but I really like using it as a bit of fun trying Mickelson type flop shots. Obviously if it goes wrong it goes horribly wrong but that's part of the fun of it. And the reason I've got two of them? Because one of them is the old sand wedge from a previous set that I use in the bunkers as I don't want to hit a stone with my newer one and put a ding in it.

I use 11 or 12 depending if I take the driver.
Purely because carrying the bag is just to dam heavy.

I carry 12 and manage just fine. If I was to add anything, maybe a 60' wedge, but that may cause more trouble than it'd solve so 12 does me nicely.

14 is fine... but the more the merrier! I could go a little mad with wedges and hybrids if we could carry more.

Carry 14 and probably use all of them at least once. Until they change it up or down that's what I carry. I will take a half set out once in a while and we do have a 4 club and putter comp which is fun but I prefer to have as many tools at my disposal as possible.
