Hi
I currently use G20 irons - have had them about 4 years and was fitted at Gainsborough for them. I'm looking at upgrading to the G30's and was wondering if anyone else has gone down this path or have switched to G30's from another brand. Are they a sufficient improvement to make it worthwhile? Should I consider a different brand or stick with Ping? Helpful comments gratefully received!

are the G20's worn out? They are regarded as one of the best GI clubs out there, not sure what you would really gain by buying new ones.

If you just fancy it, then i would try as many as possible!!

I went from Cobra S3s to G30s. And my swing is still not great.;)

From what I've seen and read you will probably not see much difference between G20s and G30s in terms of distance until you go to say 5 irons and lower, where you will get a few extra yards. However the forgiveness is probably better on G30s, but obviously harder to quantify.

But I like G30 irons as they are a well engineered club that does not have to rely on too much marketing guff to sell them. But as Rooter says go out and try as many as possible. As long as you are using comparable lofts they all kind of will hit it the same ish distance. But if you compare say 7 irons, chances are the lofts will be different between manufacturers, so you will probably present different dynamic lofts and they will go different distances.

So the choice will be more down to the look and feel and what appeals to you aesthetically. And how much you value your clubs being the latest and greatest before a new model comes out and replaces them.

I tried G30, RS1, Vapor, JPX and AP1 irons recently and g30 were the only set not to go further than my existing Cobra S2max. I found they felt dead and just had too big a sole.

I have tried G20 and G30. In my bag are G5s. There really isn't that much difference and most of it is caused by my non-robotic swing.

If you fancy some, go for it, but don't expect to play better golf unless your previous set were hideously mis-specced (which seems unlikely).

Regarding the G30s not going as far as some current irons, I think that this has been noted by a few of the online reviewers, and is a reflection of its less-than-hot face. My recollection is that this reduces the maximum distance obtained but gave a more consistent distance dispersion. You pays your money....

I don't think you'll see too much difference and as you had them fitted, unless your swing has changed or you really fancy getting new irons I wouldn't bother. If you want to go down the new iron route maybe see what else is out there. Was pleasantly impressed but the Titleist AP1
