In my short golf career, since 2008 I've had 3 sets -

1. FP cobras
2. Ping G10
3. Cleveland CG16

The cobras were great set to start off with and hit them pretty well. After coming into a bit of
money and hitting the G10s well at a demo day I took the plung and bought them. Couldn't hit a barn door with them but persisted with them for while. Eventually realised they weren't for me and got the clevelands and I am hitting them like a dream and the added distance is noticeable . Money well spent.

Has anyone on here struggled with new irons they purchased? If so what was the make and model and what have been your favourite irons to hit.

Struggled with my current ones initially but they are now firmly stuck as my favourites (until my will power runs out with the ping i20's )

Titleist 710mb's 3-pw

I have to say the Callay X14's were probably the best irons I had until I got the R11's. These clubs are great. Of the others, I liked my TM TP's (still got them) and my TM Tour Burners. Hated the R9's with a passion and didn't get on with the X20's

I've only ever had one set I couldn't get on with. Mizuno T-Zoid bottom-of-the-range custom fit.

All the rest have been good, especially fond of Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scott. MacGregor 565 (except not with graphite....which broke anyway) and Callaway X-18s.

Nice to hear the thoughts. Put it this way I'll not be giving up my clevelands for a long long time

nike pro combos ! my second set should be arriving tomoro. i love them !

It's good when you find something you like. Like myself my friend hit the titlest cb710 at a demo day and couldn't hit them on his first round last week. Ordered Nike pro combos and got them on sat. He was hitting them like a dream

Only playing 3 years but iv had 4 sets wilson Di7's Wilson FG Tours a set of Cobra S2's currently have a set of Ping i10's which im playing well with...........But...................................I will go back to the Wilsonstaff FG Tours again....Probably sooner than i think.....I loved these and should never have sold them!

Had 3 sets in a year, Cobra s2 Max, Ping G10 and Taylormade Burner 2.0. Still have the S2 Maxs in the cupboard but I hit the things into space so brought the G10'S. Hated them with a passion, lost feel and distance with them. Got the 2.0's 6 months back and love them. Very long and forgiving and just feel brilliant when Im not shanking them. Wont change them until I get down to between 15-18hcp(If I ever do).

I've got an old set of Callaway X-14 Pro series which I will never part with. Always go back to them when my ball striking goes off the boil and I need a confidence boost.
The Orka blades that I'm currently using are probably the best as they were custom fitted. The flight and feedback that I get from them is exactly what I'm looking for. I love them.......but if anyone offers me £10k for them I might consider selling them ;-)

My first set were some nasty cheap Palmer irons with graphite shafts. After that I got a set of Wilson Deep Red and loved them all the time I had them. Last year I convinced myself I was about to become a golfing god and got the Mizuno MP 53s. I never became a golfing god and infact got worse for a while. I have been refitted and changed the shafts in the 53s and now have full confidence in them. While they were away I used two other sets of irons and realised that I really love the 53s. They will not be leaving my bag any time soon.

current set of cobra s3's are great but just brought out my hippo hex2 irons for a game with uncle and was hitting them super! gonna have to re think my bag

I've had two proper sets in my playing time; some Ben Sayers Powerpact, which were okay, and for the last 4 years my Mizuno MX-23s, which I really like.

But having said that these are the only clubs I've ever tried so I might be missing out on some real beauties.

I too used to have a set of Cobra Fps and couldn't fault them :) however there came a time when I think I had outgrown/used them so I moved onto a set of nike VR split cavity irons which have been awesome :)

The Nike VR cavities i am currently using. Lovely feeling when i manage to strike it well. Which isn't often enough

Best set would be Maxfli Revolution Black Dot - an amazing club, easy to use and fairly forgiving. Still got a set in the garage that gets the occasional outing.

Worst set would be a set of Browning Automatic irons circa 1985. Sharp enough to shave with ;)

some people get put off by the small heads on them. i love the blades for the short irons. i working them really well at the minute. fade natural shot and pushing drawing on demand.
