How can I tell the difference between irons designed for the two categories above, when purchasing.

Further more, what are players irons and blades, are they the same?

The bigger the head the more Super GI they are (bigger = total size of the face and sole and depth of cavity). Don`t get too caught up in categorizing things though imo.

Players cavities are shallow cavity irons with small heads and thin soles. Blades are no cavity, muscle back, small heads.

Super GI is something like Ping GMAX
GI are something like Ping G series
Players cavities are something like Titleist CB
Blades are something like Mizuno MP-4

Alex has covered it nicely but try not to get too hung up on putting clubs into different boxes but try as many as you can and find what suits you. I know single figure players that use GI clubs and it's about what you feel happy hitting and more importantly how they react when you miss the middle. SGI and GI will definitely give you more forgiveness

When you are trying different clubs, do not be influenced by your good shots, a good shot with any club is going to be a good shot.
what you want to do is to look at how good your bad shots are. so if you hit a bad shot, but still get a decent result, that's good,

what you are trying to do is to make your bad shots better or at least less destructive.
