A couple of years ago when I took up golf and I wanted some "serious" clubs I brought the nike cci cast model irons. I got them pretty cheap and was well happy with them, for the wrong reasons!
They've got stiff shafts and aren't really the easiest of clubs to play with at my level(18hc). To be honest I didn't even know the difference between shafts or have any real idea about clubs but they were nice and shiny so I was happy!
After starting back again a few months ago I've now decided to go for something a lot more forgiving as I played with a bloke(11hc) who looked at my clubs and said "they look a bit ruthless!"
To be fair I've done ok with them and when having a good day they're fine, however I've never had any confidence hitting 5 iron or lower! I've just got hold of a mint set of callaway big bertha 06 irons and after 2 range sessions I am very happy, I'm actually looking forward to getting out there and hitting 4 iron! Even when I feel I havn't connected at all well the ball still seems to go a decent distance and fairly straight, it's great!
I do have one concern though which some of you more experienced golfers might know about and that is, Do you think I could get lazy with them? Has this happened to others?

I guess it depends on what you call lazy. Having looked at a picture of the CCI's they look a cavity back like the Ping G series, BB's, Burners etc http://www.golfonline.co.uk/popup_image.php?pID=2278&image=extra_image_2

Is the shaft on the BB's regular as I'm guessing it's that making it easier to hit rather than struggling with the stiff version especially on a bad ball striking day. It might just be the honeymoon period we all get with new clubs or that you are in a good ball striking period. Whatever the reason, as long as you focus on each shot and make a committed swing I don't think you'll go too far worng

the shafts in the bb's are regular so that will help me. I also compared head size between the irons and the nikes look tiny in comparison. Definitely more confident looking down on the bb's!
What I mean by lazy is if I'm not swinging great but getting decent enough results then maybe I will just settle for it? Obviously its still all down to me but was kind of wondering if going to an easier to hit club will then make it even harder when I go to a "better player" club. But to be fair its probably just me over-analyzing!!

If you are swinging poorly but getting decent results I think that is down to the regular shaft working much better for you and along with the big sweetspot on the BB's is giving you more forgiveness.

Once you start hitting it better on a regular basis there are loads of different makes and models with much small cavity backs that are the next step up if you like. You could look at say your BB's and then go for the Cally X22 Pro. Similarly with TM you could go from the big cavity on a Burner and then an R9 or R9 TP.

It's about getting the consistancy first. If the BB's are working better for you now then stick with them and once the handicap start dropping have a think and try some of the smaller cavity versions out for yourself
