Plenty golf on our screens this weekend and with the Irish Open being one of the bigger ET events thought it worth a thread to discuss stuff as it unfolds

1st tee offs in about an hour

Can Wang make it a hat-trick
Can Rory make the cut ;)
How's the weather going to impact players

Hope its a cracker...

Oh yeah and the PGA are playing over in Texas too...

More than expected I reckon, even though its at the K club its meant to be a bit damp and breezy all week. Nothing too severe but constant 10-15mph and showery.

Would expect Rory to do well, especially round that sort of course and what is likely to be playing fairly soft and long.

Probably not expecting him to win though, with all the extra off course commitments he will incur as a result of hosting the event. But agree he is on decent enough form, minus the putting, so potentially a top 10.

Maybe the devils in the detail but his overall putts and putts per GIR on the ET site are as good as he's ever been

The scoring suggests it aint easy out there (long tough course I know). Anyone watching this? Whats' the outlook for the afternoon groups are they going to get better run at it than the morning?

Sure, but it is still what lets him down, and putting is what wins tournaments. So think he needs to get 'hot' with the putter in order for him to win any tournament on either tour.

I had a few pounds sitting in my Paddy Power account, noticed Alvaro Quiros at 175-1, for some reason unknown to me now I went all in for him to win, he's 3 over just now, ah well its only money !

Well the weather didn't look as bad in the afternoon

Other than one blip Rory's putting was fine (Willett was still better though) Rory's tee shots were a joy to watch

4 hours of coverage... 2 ad breaks!

I know its Ireland but jeez that grass is GREEN!

Roll on day 2 :fore:

If that weather forecast is right the PM guys from yesterday have lucked in with conditions this morning and the other half of the field will be playing both rounds in tougher conditions

How good is Danny Willet looking off the back of 4 week rest and the Masters? Confidence does marvelous things in this game.

All his drives on the pro tracer were arrow straight and long and his putting wasn't too shabby either- will be hard to catch if he keeps this up

Fair play to Rory. The finish of a champion to claim the Irish Open title.

Will be interesting to see if Jordan can produce a title winning final round in Texas.

The course looks lovely. Anyone played it?

It's a great course. Played both courses at the K club last year. Two great courses. Palmer is obviously the more rounded and was in better condition and felt like a more natural course that used what was there and put a course on it. The Smurfit felt more manufactured, loads of bunkers all over the place. More open than the Palmer but a good course in it's own right. The 18th Par 5 with an Island green would easily make it into my top 18 holes along with the 7th on the Palmer.

The second on 16 was awesome, we were lucky to be in corporate yesterday and they had a pop up bar at 16 with a stand, watching from behind it looks like they are trying to hit a sixpence from miles back, it's such a tight shot, and to pull it off was awesome.

Rory finished in style and made the afternoon complete for me. His second shots on the 16th & 18th were spectacular and bode well for him now to be coming out of the doldrums and..."look out world!" I say.
