Calling all Ipod experts.

My son dropped his 4th gen Ipod touch and cracked the screen. Apple want £120 to replace screen - OMG!! They replace the unit with a refurbed one.

What options do I have? Anyone know a place I can get this repaired properly for less?

I can buy replacement screens on Ebay but they are cheap and are probably not the real spare part. I am technically competent so I would have a go myself but are these parts any good?

Please advise.

I am on my third glass.

They are fidley to change but lots of video available to show you how its done.

My recent glass is supposed to be a genuine apple part, but no real difference from the cheapo ebay one that i fitted previously.

Go for it.

Ps, this was for a 3g, not sure about the 4 but think it would be similiar
i paid a few quid for the cheapo glass and about £18 for the original

There is the glass screen which i replaced.
There is also the LCD bit that did not need changed

hope that helps

OK thanks. I only need the glass as the LCD is fine. But its 4G so is slightly different in that is comes as an assembly with button I think. So these parts on Ebay for about £20 are as good as the genuine part?

How much more was your 3G original part? 2x or 3x the price?

Ta.

Ive just changed a 3g screen (just the glass) with one my pal bought of ebay. Cheap tool kit and a a few youtube how to's and it was fine. Better than £120.
