I've been struggling with my putting over the past couple of months throwing away dozens of shots in this time with pushed/short puts.

I've been looking recently at purchasing the iPing phone cradle which along with the free app helps monitor your putting consistency and compares your strokes with the Pros.

Before I go and throw £25 at another gadget I was wondering if anyone on here has had any experience of the iPing? Was it useful? What did they learn/improve by using it?

Not used it myself - not an IPhoner - but everyone I know who has used it has been enthusiastic about it - if not the price of the cradle.

The fact that Ebay prices are very nearly full price is normally good sign too.

I've used it and thought it was interesting, but doesn't really help you become a better putter. It gives you a putting handicap (which doesn't mean your good, mine was low and I suck at putting) and other stats but didn't really give me anything truly enlightening. It also recommended me for a slight arc putter.

Some months later (no change in putting style) I went to see a pro for a proper putting lesson, and he recommend a face balanced putter, rather than heel/toe weighted slight arc putter that the iPing app did. Interesting. I went with the pros recommendation.

For me, save the £25 and 'putt' (comedy genius) it towards a putting lesson.

It's fairly easy to make your own cradle from a cheap case and a pipe clip - so I'm told.

I use a rubber shaft clamp and a couple of laggy bands!

It only gives you the information, you have to decipher it and decide how and what to practice. I think the general idea of it is to groove consistency, with the rationale that it doesn't really matter if you are doing something slightly wrong as long as you do it ALL the time.

Ive got the app but didnt spend £25 on the cradle. I just made my own out of an old phone cover.

The app its self works well and it is good to see how consistant your stroke can be. I find it worth while using it for a long period instead of just short blasts, you'll see the benefit if you use it often.

I've got a cradle you can have - as long as TheRod has no objections to that - it was his that he gave to me.

PM me your details and, barring death threats from TheRod - I'll post it to you.

I have used it, no idea what all the numbers meant though! if you can work out what they mean great! if however you are like me and a bit clueless, £25 toward a putting lesson may be better...

Fill you boots Darren:thup:

One of the reasons I didn't use it, is I got a bit obsessive about the numbers and bettering my score. I got my putting handicap down to 0.8 but it bears no relation to my on course putting..... I'm rubbish!!

Thanks Nick.

Cirenbhoy - it will be posted to you tomorrow - no cost ;)

On the proviso that when you're done with it - it is available to someone else on here for the same (gratis) deal. ;)

Thanks! It will of course be passed on like a Forum Chalice to those of us with putting woes.

Thanks everyone else for your feedback, looks like its worth a go but just as a monitor of my stroke.

i have it and iphone 5 cradle - like someone above said, you need to use it for protracted use. I've not really bothered with the handicap thing and I've only used it indoors. Sadly, (read geekly) I did a rough stimp reading of the one area on house (upstairs landing) that give me a decent length of putt.

where it is useful is gauging your repeatability of putter swing and giving you a real feel for how precise you might need to be. from what I see of people who are ropey putters they don't often have a repeatable tempo. and this help with that.

My view is at <30 quid for a cradle and that many people struggle to take >36 putts a round so even modest investment of time could save you 4+ strokes a round is VFM compared to that bid, shiny enticing driver you might be eying up....

3Bays do a gizmo that fits into the top of your putter and gives you putter stats. I was talking to the manager of an AG store and he told me that he prefers to use a £200 gizmo than the £15,000 putting monitor that the store had fitted.

I've tried the full swing gizmo and if the putting one is as good it would be money well spent if you could afford it.

I found to be an excellent tool. Bought the cradle off eBay for about £22 so not much saving. I found the app tells you where you are going wrong rather than tell you what you should be doing, but that still helps you work on the right things. I was surprised to find I had a strong arc, so I just concentrated on straightening my stroke after impact and it worked a treat. Also bought a toe weighted putter (a Scotty funnily enough) and I'd say my putting has definately improved. I would recommend it.

I thought it was very useful. It doesn't tell you what you are doing wrong necessarily, but it does give you a figure on how repeatable your stroke is.
