Hi

I was thinking of upgrading my phone to an Iphone when I heard there was an app that shows maps of different golf courses that give you a distance to hole.
Has anyone got this app and if so is it any good?
Cheers

I have the Iphone but not any of the mapping software. The capabilities of the Iphone would suggest the right software could be as good as a proper GPS.

What is he name of the actual application and I will check the app store for some reviews for you?

Would you really want to be waving an iphone about on the golf course? For the fragility, cost and lack of waterproofing, I would have thought it would be cheaper in the long term to use a dedicated unit.

I think you're thinking of Free Caddie, I'm pretty sure haplesshacker* has reviewed it on here (and this months mag)

I've got a Google phone and that has GPS applications also.

They're not as accurate as a dedicated unit but as they're free applications maybe worth it so see if you can justify spending money on a dedicated one.

Here you go.

HI yes I have it its called golf logix £25
and its great you can trial it for 24 hours.
I only use it for distances im not sure of and its helped me with cholce of clubs when I have to guess.
Good app and saved me loads.

Ill let you into a little secret.

There is an application called teeshot live.

It's just been acquired by EA Games and has GPS and course mapping as well. V2 is due out any day now and will be available for 59p for a limited time to allow us original users a cheap upgrade. It will then go back to full price.

Probably about £20. It's not in the store right now, and neither is the prev version, but well worth looking out for for that money. It's an absolute steal ! I paid about £12 for it a year ago.

Check out the old website. You will notice there is some disquiet amongst us original owners due to what's happened over the update and the EA takeover. But that should be nothing for a new user to worry about.

Teeshot Live

There are others worth having a look at as well.

GolfShot GPS - gets very good reviews

Most have lite versions you can try out for free.

GolfShot GPS

17.99 for life. Global coverage. Uses satellite imagery overlayed with an interactive yardage checker. That is, it knows where you are, you touch the point on the map you want to know the distance to and it tells you. I have it and it is brilliant. At the moment they market it as a one off payment for life, but in the future they will change the pricing model.

Course are being added weekly, most of the main courses near to me are on the system.

If you want it to you can tell how far you hit each club and it will overlay club selection onto the maps. It will also keeps scores per round and then the Golfshot website will allow you to analyse your game over time (a bit like how-did-i-do if your golf clubs are connected to it).

If you have any specific questions let me know.
