There's been plenty of debate on here about the various gps devices and one I've shouted about is the GolfShot GPS for the Iphone. The functions and uses of this are brilliant for the cost and I can't see why anyone with an iphone would consider any other device.
This was until yesterday. My Iphone received software update this week, (which was a pain in the arse) and my golfshot doesn't seem to work the same. Whenever I wasn't using it I would press the standby button (top right) to save the battery, then when I needed it, I would just activiate the phone as usual and the golfshot software would be in the same position I left it, However, yesterday whenever I activated the phone, it would show the home screen and I would have the load the software again. It woudl show a round in progress but the fact I had to do this all the time was a complete pain in the arse, too time sonsuming and used even more battery. If this is how it works with the updated software then Unfortunately I would no longer recomend this software, not even for the £17.99.

I just thought seeing as I've raved about this so much I would let you all now my new opinion.

Sorry Golfshot gps fella's but this isn't worth the hassle anymore.

I had the same on Monday. For some reason my skycaddie hadn't charged and I had this on my phone so used it instead.

Real pain as you say. Although I did notice on the back 9 it seemed to be ok again. Not sure why, I didn't do anything.

By the time I'd finished the round I'd gone from 100% battery down to about 10%.

I'm sure golfshot will sort it, there usually pretty good at getting bugs fixed quickly.

Have you tried restarting the app by double clicking the home button? Apps that are already running appear at the bottom of the screen.

It's Apple's attempt at multi-tasking, although I don't know if the app has to be written to take advantage of it.

lol your problem has nothing to do with Golfshot. I have updated my Iphone to latest software and my Golfshot works perfectly, just as it did before..

The problem with it is that if you don't actually double tap the home button and then hold down the golfshot icon til the close icon appears, the gps doesn't always disable even when you're not in the program. This causes it to use more battery than it did in OS3.

I believe they're working on an update which is good, because other than the battery it eats, it's brilliant.

I used mine 2 weeks ago after the latest update and it works fine. Also, at the start of my round I had 100% battery power, at the end, it had about 73%, so it doesn't actually use that much battery power.

this app is great! especially the stats...check your iphone settings as you can change whetehr or not when you unlock your phone you go direct to the menu screen or to the app last used...

I have experimented and found that if you turn off bluetooth, notifications, wifi and 3G data before your round, your battery will last WAY longer. (mine used to go from 100% down to near dead if I left it active for a round, but now goes from 100% down to about 40% on a 4.5 hr round)

In your options in Golfshot, set auto-lock to OFF and when you are on your round, use the golfshot app's own power save mode, (press the little signal strength indicator on the gps distances page). This will also help save power without the app quitting out.
