Been having a bit trouble with apple products lately.
My mums iPad is fairly old, I'm not sure which generation it is. However, she plugged it in to charge up and when she took it off the charger and went to open it the numerical passcode pad that appears had been replaced by a keyboard and is asking for a password. I clicked it to the numbers and entered her passcode but it won't open. Iv no idea how it's managed to change to the keyboard and I can open the iPad to investigate.
Any ideas as to how I fix this??

First thing I do is hold the two buttons down until the device reboots. So top button and home button together till the device turns off and comes back up with the apple.

Tried the button reset mate, didn't make a difference, also googled and looked at YouTube but not much help either

Just as an off chance is she on Sky Broadband, I only ask because we have recently lots of issues with our apple products and an the issue is IOS10 not working well with early Sky routers. Sky are aware of the issues but will note replace the router until you decide to walk

I just cant think of any reason you would get the keyboard prior to number pad log in.

The latest update has changed the way you log into your device but still its either finger print or number pad.

Can you bring up your camera and the other bits from the bottom screen thing?

OK... I swiped right and it gives me the news screen and there is a search at the top of that, that brings up the keyboard, all prior to log in. Have you tried pressing home and home again as thats kinda the new way to the keypad?

So from black screen just "home" wait "home".

Sorted!!
Turns out the super bright 6 year decided to change the numerical passcode to the alphabetical one using his name😂
