My iPad mini hasn't updated since IOS 9.3.5

Does it mean it's essentially obselete in Apple's eyes and they are 'at it' trying to make me shell out for a new one.

It still works perfectly well but I notice it's not as nippy as it was.

Sort of gone to a 'Vets' 4-ball speed.

The original mini?

My daughters 3rd generation also doesnt get them. Think you're right and that newer apps and improvements of optimised for newer models..

I've had an ipad mini for about 3 years now and it crashed a lot lately. I bought a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 in the week and it running much better.

I think Apple usually supports a device for about 5 years. After that it's obsolete. They recently stopped support for some 2011 matchbooks an iPads.
I don't think you can expect a company to support a device forever. Otherwise they would have so much resourced tied up for the old stuff, you would never get any new stuff out.
The older hardware just can't cope with the newer software anymore, which is developed for better and faster hardware.

It's not just Apple, check out the others as well.

It was obsolete to apple just before they launched the iPad mini 2. Hardware limitations will limit what they can do with regards to updates. All operating systems have these issues and they'll have released updates to a point that is about as far as they are happy with sacrificing performance for.

Not sure how it can suddenly start feeling tired now. It hasn't been updated for quite a while now and so should be running exactly the same now as it was many months ago when it had its last update.

It's been getting slower now since the last update I'd say. Things like the speed apps (Twitter & Spotify in particular) open.

The other issue is that it's nearing full up status with not a lot of storage space left - just 2gb or so.

Take all the points made above, so just might put a note up the chimney to Santa for a nice new one next week.
