Should i be flattered? i think I am.. have a playing lesson with him tomorrow and he has refused my offer of £5 a hole matchplay with full handicaps, so i presume he thinks i have "game"

Should i accept? i have never played anything that competitive before (in golf terms)

Pro-ams can be great fun. It is a chance to see good players play under competitive circumstances. Don't worry about your game, the pressure is on the pro. Before you tee off, ask the pro if he would like you to pick up if you are out of the hole.

I have done this a few times with my coach. It's fun. The format is often based on medal though, so no picking up unless you are definitely out of it. Last one I played in we had to score a 9 on one hole, as two others picked up when they could have scored 7 for 0 points.

You definitely should.

Our pro and new captain have issued an open invitation to members to take them on at 4BBB, which I fully intend to take them up on just so that I can see how the pro gets himself round the course.

Go out there and enjoy it with no pressure. If you play bad you can just say you must have a crap teacher :D

Go for it mate, I play in several each year and have yet to come across one that has been overly serious, even in the series final at brocket hall recently. If you get on well with the pro then you should have a great day, even when we play the winter one at Bedford in the freezing cold its a great laugh. Most of the ones Ive played in have been best 2 stableford scores from 4 so little pressure on the basis you expect the pro to score most holes. Obviously the pro has a separate medal card too.

No (see below)

No (the Ams have to pay for the pro)

He sees you as a meal ticket so he gets the chance to win some of your cash from his fellow pros ;)

Seriously, they can be good fun and if you think the Pro and the venue are worth the money then go for it

Pro-AM-IER:smirk:

Go for it, have fun and see what it would be like trying to pay the mortgage based on your score:rolleyes:

....and you can show of all your lovely TM gear and tell the pro you were fitted on the European Tour bus:lol:

Its a fun day, don't expect much from the pro as they're usually nothing special. I have a couple of mates off of scratch and none of the pro's I've ever played with bar one (Neil Fenwick - who absolutely burst the ball) have been as good as the scratch golfers.

That may sound disrespectful and I apologise to anyone who may find this so but that's just my experience. Remember the majority of club pro's probably turned professional off of 3 or 4 handicaps.

Very dependent on the pro but as you say probably applies to most of them. Am very fortunate that some of the ones I play in are with a lad whos been on the challenge tour, currently on the europro but off to us tour school at the end of the year - hes way better than the guys i know off scratch :)

As I said, that's just been my experience. Every club pro that I've played with in a PRO-AM has been distinctly average. The exception was the lad Fenwick from Tommo's track Dunbar who is playing a few events on the Europro Tour this year.
