touch wood i am soon about to get my very first golf membership an have been asked in for an interview i was just wondering if this was the norm an if so why?

It tends to be about you and your golfing past (have you been a member anywhere else etc), what you will bring to the club etc. These days most tend to be pretty informal affairs and a way of meeting prospective members first. My advice is to be positive. Some questions you could ask are:

Are your competitions drawn (or does everyone always play in the same groups which would make it harder to get a competitive game)

How easy is it to find a game at weekends

How do I book a time (if you need to)

What is the social side like (shows interest even if you have absolutely no intention of going to a social function)

Yup, just formality. I had one as a junior abd it scared the beejesus out of me
