I've just watched this thing orbiting the earth just above my house!

It's taking 93 minutes per orbit so I'll get another look at it aroung 10.38pm.

P.S. More details here,

I've seen it three times this week, quite a spectacle when you think about what it actually is and where it is. Not far north of Paris tonight but it seemed almost directly overhead

What can you actually see ?

Do you need a telescope to see anything other than a bright star ?

It's easily visible with the naked eye.
It looks like a star, but it's moving accross the sky at quite a pace. It'll be round again in about 10.38pm, this time I'll try it with binoculars.

Yup saw it, easily visible to naked eye as very bright light travelling at pace, too hazy for the binos to enhance the viewing, lovely sort of halo going on around the Moon .

I was going to ask what to look for, and that's exactly what Mrs BiM & I have just seen, thanks Slime.

Along with the ISS if you look a little closer you can often see Satellites buzzing over. Smaller and not so bright but still shifting at the same pace.

Pity you can only see it in London and Manchester. :(

It can be seen from all over the UK at the same time - where you are in the UK only affects how high up in the sky you see it.

Next pass is tonight at 21.49, rising in the West, should be a great pass for everyone!

Was great a couple of nights ago when a supply ship headed to the ISS could be seen chasing behind the Station at 17,500 MPH!

Will never forget many years ago now, seeing the Space Shuttle following the Station - what a sight that was.

I love watching when it's passing overhead.
It might be traveling around the world at 17K odd MPH but it's all relative.
When asked by a police officer how fast he was going a friend of mine replied, "it's all relative officer."
I was doing 40 MPH in relation to the earth but we are traveling at around at 1000 MPH just sitting still, but we are also traveling around 66,000 MPH around the sun and 420,000 MPH though space itself.
The officer wasn't impressed and gave him a ticket and three points for speeding with a lecture on not trying to be funny with him!
