I had half an hour spare this morning before a client came in so looked though the old golf mags that I had in my desk. Came across a 2007 article by Rory explaining how he used an interlocking grip and one of the reasons was that he had small hands and the change improved his game.

Partly due to the fact that I also have small hands but mainly due to the fact that it felt solid when I picked the club up, I thought I would give it a try in this afternoons 9 hole social. A dozen warm up shots in the nets and then straight out on the course saw me come in with 20 points. Pretty pleased with the results but will it be a case of first time lucky?

Have others made the change from overlap/baseball grip and if so, how did you get on?

when i first started to play I used the baseball, probably like a lot of people. Changed to interlock and have been using it ever since. Gave the overlap a go but it jut doesnt feel right.

I also have quite small hands and used the interlocking grip for years. Changed to overlapping around 2001 but then changed to the baseball grip about 18 months ago. To me the club just feels much more secure, especially in wet weather.

That's interesting as the one thing I did notice today was that the club did seem stronger through the shot but on completion it came away from the palms of my hands more than before.

I use to use interlocking had a few lesson and told to change to baseball grip due to small hands.iam better with baseball grip.

I've got quite large hands and used to use a overlapping grip, but it didn't feel right, I changed my grip size from standard to mid-size and my grip to interlocking and it felt much better the new grip size and grip style let me grip the club without feeling like I was strangling it, which in turn released the tension in my arms and let me swing more comfortably.

I have big old hands and I use the interlocking. Tried overlapping for a bit on the advice of a pro, but it felt horrible and gave me pain in my little finger so abandoned it.

That is exactly the reason I moved away from interlocking.

Baseball / 10 finger (no wait that's not right?) grip for me. I've got small palms, lovely pianist fingers though apparently?!

Interlocking / overlap and the club just feels like it's wriggling all over the place throughout the swing.

I changed to interlocking after playing with Vardon grip for over 30 years. Felt that both hands were more secure and not coming apart in the swing.

Was vardon for years, but changed to baseball last year. Another one with short
Fingers but wide palms. Oddly, I use midsize grips too! Has helped to
Drop my grip pressure hugely. No longer have sore hands after rounds and all calluses disappeared within weeks

Started with a baseball grip but over the years this morphed into the overlapping.

I have had a few attempts at the interlocking as my hands seem to be trying to make me go to this ultimately (if that makes any sense) but apart from the odd practice swing I have denied them the opportunity to lead me to that route.

However wouldn't rule it out sometime in the future.

Started with a baseball grip and used it for 3 and a bit years then last year our pro give me a lesson and got me to change grip. Best thing everrrrrr. Took a week or two to get used to it as I felt everytime I swung my finger was about to snap off and be flopping around.

1st ever lesson, Pro asked me to show him my grip, then taught me interlocking.

Never looked back.

Can't imagine using wobbly baseball grip again.

I recently changed from the overlapping to the interlocking grip for entirely the opposite reason. I had a sore knuckle on my little finger of my right hand and the interlocking grip seemed less painful at the time. The injury to the knuckle has now healed, but I stayed with the grip because it feels a little bit firmer. I have medium/large hands btw.

About a month ago my pro suggested I change to the overlapping from the interlocking after using interlocking for evs. My issue is that I has very little wrist hinge as I seem to be the opposite of double jointed. No jointed? Anyway, he thought the overlapping would help me.

Felt very weird at first as you would imagine, but it is just about feeling natural now. Not sure if it has helped me with more wrist hinge through, I am sort of coming to the conclusion my wrists do not like hinging as it gets extremely painful when I force myself to do it.

One of the best iron players I have seen at our club uses NO wrist hinge.
