Went out in my shorts yesterday as it was scorchio, got absolutely bitten to buggery on my legs by horrible little flying things!
Can anyone recommend an insect repellent which will keep the little blighters away?
Don't usually use it on holiday and from what I recall that cheap stuff in Boots does sod all.

Cheers

Worked wonders whilst I lived in Cyprus

And afterbite for any bites afterwards

bloke i play with swears by "Skin So Soft" which is an Avon product. works in an industry that needs to know its business re insect repellants.

claims it whats special forces prefer to use.

Dunno about the special forces but the British army squaddies swear by it. I've been known to nick my sons stuff when he has brought it home, it's great.

I've used Jungle Formula before, was recommended by my GP when we went to Kenya. It works but it's absolutely horrible stuff.

I've heard the Avon SSS thing before as well. Not sure which product though as I'm fairly sure the SSS range has a lot of things in it, from bath oils to moisturisers etc (I remember my mum always having the bath oil when I was a kid).

Marmite works really well - eating it rather than smearing it on though. Couple of slices of toast and marmite for a couple of days before you play and then on the morning before you play and it'll keep the bugs at bay. Something to do with them not liking vitamin B12. And as a bonus beer also contains B12 so getting smashed the night before might help.

Scientists have discovered that mosquitos prefer blood group O, followed by A and then B. So make sure you play with and walk close to someone with blood group O and you'll be fine.

(EDIT - Unfortunately if you are blood group O then you're screwed).

Alternatively carry one of those citronella candles with you wherever you go.

I was telling RickG about this yesterday as we were being attacked by little flies and gnats yesterday around the PGA. I used it regular as did all our mob when at Faslane, great stuff
