Long story short. played Sat, slight ache in left ankle afterwards. Played Sun hurt like hell after. Work on Mon no problem having forgot about it. Mon evening had a few practice chips on my lawn at home, hurts like hell again. Feels like a tendon (could be muscle)starting just above the ankle bone and runs for about 6" up the inside of the leg. Any ideas on treatment, is it a common golfing injury or an I just getting old. Common sence tells me to rest it, but I rearly rearly want to play on Wed evening.

Iv had my fair share of ankle injuries over the years playing football.....Its hard to diagnose a cure over the net....Im not a doc and i would only be giving an opinion.....Best bet and for piece of mind is to go see a physio therapist.....They'll diagnose and cure your problem in the same session....Also you dont say if it was caused by something happening through your round.

Didn't notice anything untoward during the round, no sudden twinges or pains. It feels more like tendon than muscle, I've been walking on it all day without any bother, it was only when I practiced tonight (had maybe 10 swings with an 8 iron)that it flared up again. Reckon it must pull something on the follow through or during weight transfer.

Get to a physio Mick...It could be any no. of things and if you cant just think R.I.C.E.
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation....

Give it a week or 2 to heal properly.

take above advice and go see a physio... and if you only need a week off, think yourself lucky.

I've just booked a tee time for Sunday afternoon, it'll be my first full round of golf in over 6 weeks since i did my back!

Actually, there is little point on using ice at this stage as you are 72 hours+ by now. You will be better off using a tubigrip around the area (but only when active, no need for it when sitting around/sleeping) and maybe something like Tiger Balm to promote the bloodflow into the affected zone.

Ice will be useful within an hour of doing the activity if you choose to play through. Speaking as someone nursing a severe ankle injury (5 weeks now and managed two rounds in the last 7 days but needed a bit of ice at home), you may be better off giving it at least one full week's rest. Galling as it may be given the weather, a week or two now could save lots of hassle in the future.

For what it's worth, I see little point going to a physio at this stage. A wodge of cash for someone who won't really be able to tell you anything given your description and who will only tell you to do the things we're telling you. For the ankle, consider seeing a physio if you are still having problems in a couple of months. Anything beforehand is pointless as ankle injuries are notoriously slow to heal due to constant pressure and little rest.

Take it easy and remember, return in haste and repent at leisure...
