After taking up golf this year, was wondering if anyone has an indoor putting green and does it help when on the course, was thinking of getting one for the winter when i can't get to my local course.

I'e got a putting mat which gives me a putt of around 8 feet. Where I put it in the room gives a right lip putt. I can hole 20 out of 20 if I concentrate. Could never do that on the course, even from the same spot. This leads me to conclude that:

1. We miss more putts by misreading them than hitting them wrongly (well I do anyway!)

2. Putts on proper greens are much more susceptible to slight errors of strike or alingment.

An indoor green will certainly help you to groove a stroke.

We have a putting mat in the office so can have a wee practice whenever workload allow.... damit just missed from 20 feet!

Agree with this. I use my mat quite a bit during the winter. Gets the golf fix out of the system on dark nights.

And we do have to acknowledge that sometime nature gets a hand in this any even the best greens have the odd imperfection or bad roll.

15 quid for a mat in American golf won't break the bank. Folds away when not in use.

Is there, no, what is the differnece between the AG £15 jobbies, the £100 versions and the Huxley type set-ups for £500 ish?

Why did you spend the extra (for those that did)? Did you wish you'd not gone for the cheap option (for those that wish they'd spent more)?

Thanks (don't think this is too much of a hi-jack?)

I practise putting on my living room carpet. I practise it a lot, actually.

It's no good for reading greens (something I still struggle with) nor for judging pace, but it has helped me to develop a reliable stroke that returns the putter to the ball with a straight face and my putting is much improved as a result.
