What a dilemma!

Indesit have recalled their Tumble Driers and state that they are safe to use. That's what they've told my daughter who has the model being recalled. But has to wait 5-6 weeks for an engineer to call.

My wife and I have advised her not to use it at all. Especially after hearing on the news of the lady whose house was burnt down and who was told the same thing, "Safe to use".

What does the forum think, are we being OTT?

Thoughts please.

I have a recalled model and don't have a problem using it as I never put it on when I'm asleep or out of the house.

Cleaning the filter after every use is meant to mean it's safe to use. We had a recalled model and got offered a new one for £99 instead of £299. And that included delivery, installation and removal of the old machine.

Yes good point.
Suppose we're just panicking, although hers is in the garage and with a 5 month old and a 2 year old, not always easy to keep an eye on it.

I'll mention that to her - good advice.

I'm in a similar boat. Tumble goes on the blink and you phone up to sort it out and they ask is yours on our list for modification?

WTF? What list for modification?

Oh yeah the fluff builds up on the back filter (us norms? have no access) and could catch fire.

3 weeks later, 2 engineers down, with diffferent opinions and a 28 day response time, but we've got the required green stickers with the help line on our machine now! Oh goody we can phone up the right number.

Result of 2nd visit is bearings have gone, Engineers response is ,you can still use the dryer and we'll be back to replace them. Its alright the noise will go in 15 minutes and the drum replacement has been sorted as the dink, probably caused by a heavy zipper has been knocked out, filed down and is not an issue. Don't know what the previous engineer was on about?

Phone call to Hotpoint/Indesit:
Hello, Hello hotpoint heaedquarters this is Rosemary the Divinest of the finest (sorry, couldnt resist a Hong Kong Fuey moment) and they have'nt got a clue! Especially as it takes quite a few options after to speak to who you need.

Going with the engineers recommenadtion that its ok to use and only using it when we're here and up.

3rd vist looming!

Cheers Fade
