Is your club stopping those with inactive handicaps winning comps? This last month, 2 winners and 2 second placers at my place have been demoted as they didn't have current handicaps. One guy shot a nett 62 and got a 2 shot cut for it but he didn't win the comp.

Thats what should be happening right? inavtive players can play for qualifying porposes but not win an event, thats the way I thought it worked.

Interesting point though, I'll be having a check of the last few months next time I'm up there. I'm sure one or two clubs haven't been checking properly.

Is it just one event for them to bring their H/C back to an active status?

That's the whole point of having an active or non active handcap. If it's non active....you can't win anything.

If I had my way, i'd make it 5 cards minimum a year, no the 3 it is now.

Ours too. Which actually worked to our benefit as second place became first when someone was yanked out of a comp as they had an inactive handicap.

They may not have been 'yanked out' - maybe just using their round to get a card in and the system was not able to accommodate this.

I have never had an inactive handicap having enjoyed good health and my circumstances have always allowed me to play golf HOWEVER I do realise I am fortunate and I therefore do not class all inactive handicap holders as 'bandits' as appears to be the case on here!

If I had my way I'd make it 10. Just a few cards a year to me does not constitute an active member of any club. The system is based on statistical analysis and with so few cards is just worthless.

As for OP, yes, we introduced a rule that a board comp cannot be won by an inactive handicap.

My club does but work this out....

I got my handicap in February. Three cards done over the winter. I've played in various monthly medals/stablefords over the months. I played in my first 'major' in May and was told that I couldn't win as I hadn't put in enough cards this year. Apparently, my handicap could be false.

I only got the handicap in January - how can it be false??

Normal tees and greens doesn't necessarily make them qualifiers though unfortunately. Did your handicap get adjusted for the rounds you played in them?

I was dq'd from 2nd in a comp last year because I'd only played 2 qualifiers since I got my first h/cap. I knew this before I played and only entered it because I thought it was a qualifier, which would have given me my 3 to be eligible to win prizes in following comps.

It wasn't a qualifier. This was last October and I was told there weren't any more qualifiers until March this year so I missed all the winter comps.

This is out-flippin-rageous. 3 cards for your h'cap. A few medals/stablefords.....where's the problem? There isn't one, is there. :)

That's my thinking. It's cheesed me off right royally and I'm considering moving to another club when my current membership expires.
