Inactive handicap

Got my first adult comp tomorrow.

Booked in fine but just checked HDID and my handicap doesn't have a "C" next to it (Competition handicap). My last comp was April last year.

What does this mean and can i still play tomorrow?

Yes you can play but normally it means you won't be able to win

I understand that to keep a handicap active you must play 3 qualifiers a calendar year. Will my round tomorrow count towards one of those?

With comps sparse maybe worth getting a coulle of supplementarys in before the weather turns to keep you active next year.

That is entirely up to the club to decide if non-competition handicaps can win. If the handicap committee is fully confident that they can check on the current playing form of such players - difficult, I know, with a large membership - then allowing them into comps should be no problem. With a fairly low number of members, we have always allowed non-comp handicappers to enter comps and that can be an encouragement to enter more comps. Maybe we've been lucky but no non-comps have won anything as I remember.

Good point well made although we have it as an entry clause for all club comps that a player has to have an active handicap. The OP will be able to use the card towards reactivation and I agree that a couple of supplementary ones will get it back up and running quickly and then providing he fulfills the obligations going forward won't have any issues

I believe you could still get a cut but HC still inactive

Of course he will be eligible for handicap reduction - he was playing in a qualifier.
