Inactive Handicap Question

Hi all.

I got my Handicap back in April (6) , as mentioned in other posts , that was as low as they would take it. The day after the 18th was closed for drainage work. As it stands the work will not completed until Mid August. They converted the par 5 7th to a par 4 and 3. the course was not measured by the union.

First question: if it isn't measured then none of the club comps are "qualifiers" (??)

The hcp sec has been cutting people general play , and in a stableford last week (which was put on by the club after the club champs was cancelled) I shot a -4 66 (nett 60) . I bumped into him tonight and asked about a general play cut and he said no, as "the system won't let me do it" . He responds "you should play in more club comps!" I said "why if there not qualifiers and I can't get cut?" ...he said nothing.

My issue is this: as some of you know (and the club) my son is recovering from leukaemia and I can't play every weekend unless I arrange childcare, so I can't make all the club events and when the club finally gets back on the right layout, I will have about 6-7 weeks before there back on mats and to get 3 cards in. Could be tough.

second question: do I get 12 months from handicap issue to get 3 cards in?
third question: can I argue, should it go in inactive next year that I played 3 events while the course was in ean altered state, which is no fault of my own.

I can't seem to get a straight answer and I don't want my hcp to be marked as as "I" when I'm trying my best.

1 it will never be marked as (i) again, it will simply cease to be marked as (c)
2 he is correct in that he can't make any adjustments to your handicap below 5.6 - that he shouldn't be adjusting the rest that way is another matter
3. the supplemental card situation for cat 1's has recently changed; basically you will be able to top up your 3 from Sept (of the top of my head) but can't submit any until then.

really really simple solution - just find a way to play 3 Q open events between now and next March; forget the club if they don't have a measured course.

Sorry to hear about your son, but personal circumstances rarely come into handicap adjustments - until the A/R.

GPAs need Area authorisation to go into Cat 1.

Seems like the club is hoping to get away with doing sod-all about the changes and just use GPAs to adjust - but cant do so for Cat 1s. There's a recognised procedure for such situations!

Worth a check with Area Union? They'll certainly sort the club out if not following the rules!

You could try playing a few Opens elsewhere - obviously a bit tricky given your circumstances!

As previously stated, the I for inactive no longer exists in England, if your handicap is marked with a C (competition handicap) then you can playing n comps otherwise t is not hat marked with anything

that's great. To be fair it will be interesting to see what happens as this just doesn't effect me. All members in the same boat . Hoping they can't take the course work into consideration.

it's nothing to do with ceasing a handicap

they all now use the same designation ie it is either a (c) handicap or it isn't

the designation has no relevance to playing in competitions per se - it's entirely up to a club as to how they designate competition eligibility. however, you can realistically expect open Q events to require a (c) handicap.
