New models being released in April means hopefully a bargain to be had. I'm looking for a 55" at somewhere around £1,000.

There's bound to be some experts on here - what advice? What should I be looking for or avoiding?

LG 55" OLED, either C1 or B1. Both released last year, so are discounted to shift ahead of the C2/B2 models turning up in a few weeks.

C1 has slightly better sound, and better HDMI connectivity for games consoles, etc. Richersounds has the C1 at £1,199, but with a £110 discount code offer on it, will be only just above your budget. The B1 is £999, minus a £60 discount code.

The C1 will have a slightly faster processor inside.

My Mum bought a B last year on my recommendation, and is very happy with it. My brouther then bought a C, and likes it.

I'd buy the B1 myself, but HID has said there's nothing wrong with our old Samsung -- but she's never seen an OLED...

I bought a Sony Brava fairly recently. It has a great picture but I've found out it's doesn't have a WiFi headphone connection so you have to manually plug in a headphone cable or plug in a WiFi sound converter. It also has a problem when using ITV Hub player in that you cannot play live itv programs through the hub. Looking on the SONY help forums there are a lot of people complaining about this but SONY are not offering any solution.

No advice on which model but give your reasonable close proximity I would certainly go to Richer Sounds.
Just like GoKart. Great company to deal with, good prices and after sales service. On TV's a 6 year warrenty is included in the price and, yes, I needed to use it and had absolutely no hassle.

I've got the C1 mentioned, it's an absolutely superb tv. I use it for sports and PS5 mainly, with 4k TV shows as well. Can't recommend it enough

Thanks gents, all input appreciated. I feel a trip to Richer Sounds this week - they look to have some great deals on too! My CostCo membership lapsed when I retired last year...

These kind of problems are common but it's not Sony's issue to fix anymore than it would be Apple's problem to fix if the BBC app on your phone wasn't working. The issue will be the broadcasters to sort but it will be super low down on the priority list.

Wait a week if you can - almost all manufacturers will be offering 10% off in the run up to Easter.

At least you know your budget, that is always a good start. All I will say is to be careful with the major brands, they do make cheaper versions of their TVs to get people to think they are getting a top end TV for average TV money, but you really are not getting what you think you are. Think about what you are going to watch on it mostly, some TVs are better for sport, but some are better for movies. A high refresh rate will always be better when watching sport and it will eliminate any blurring. If you are planning on runnig aps through it then it needs to be a full smart TV, if not then get a better TV without that function.

Very much agree with this and for that money I'm tempted to get another one. Fantastic buy.

Only thing I don't like about them is the smart remote, it's not terrible it's just a bit of a compromise of design. Everything else about them is impossible to fault for the money.

But this app works fine on other TV makes and Sony admit it's an issue they need to address. Not having earphone Bluetooth connectivity is also their problem.

Not that long ago I treated myself to a Panasonic TX65JZ2000B. Yes it cost as much as a small car, but boy the picture and sound is truly amazing:)

Another vote for the LG C1, we got the 65” last year and it’s brilliant. Can’t comment on the sound as it’s run through an AVR but the image is faultless.

Like anything, take your time to set it up and you will get good results, rush it or just use the default settings then you may get adverse results.

If you use game consoles, might be useful to look for a model that can do 120Hz and avoid OLED (assuming burnout is still an issue?).
