I think I've mentioned before about my old club's annual trip abroad , next year being the 11th year (5 years in Vilamoura and now 5 years in Puerto Banus) the guys have decided it's time for a change of scenery and have asked for some suggestions, criteria being (as close as possible to) guaranteed good/hot weather first full week in October, 3 hour flight, 5 courses of decent standard and obviously some nightlife.

I've suggested an all inclusive in Turkey but that seemed to get thrown out before it landed on the table!

So has anyone got any good ideas?

Oh target price is £550/person for golf and hotel.

Some of the guys at our place went to Turkey and the courses were in tip top condition. Also heard Bulgaria is worth a look at as an emerging destination and they are planning a trip out there next season

I think they recently went to Morrocco as well and said it was excellent.

If you want me to find out where they went and what it costs Cookelad I can do on Saturday?

Have you tried the travel mag in this months magazine?

Why was turkey thrown out , ive heard Belek is cracking
We have just had a group of 8 members who went and now said they wont consider any where else. I want to do Bulgaria Thracian cliffs looks the dogs............

It's a 4 hours + flight to Turkey, so I'm assuming that's why it's been bombed out?

What about Tunisia? I've only been as a tourist (not as a golfer) but courses look to be decent, and it will be warm. Nightlife will be variable depending on where you go, but its only a 3 hour flight there.

This is what I don't understand, I've never heard a bad thing said about golf in Turkey yet our lot seem oblivious to it! And I'm in the group that stands to gain the least from all-inclusive with my lightweight status!

Can't stop looking at Mauritius, and that doesn't fulfil all the criteria!

ah you know you want to :D

Ok so its treble the flight time (& prob treble the cost) but jees it's worth it!

I'd post a pic from my last round if I didn't think you'd all just top yerselves! :D

Heck yeah I want to! Not sure I could convince the treasury to let me go without her though!

Might put forward the idea of Lisbon to the boys and see what comes back!

Portugal might be a good shout, heard good things about playing golf there in general

I know Mauritius isn't really practical for these types of trips but take this weekend, my wife will probably come with me and either stay on the main island and use the resort hotel/pool etc or pop over in the water taxi with me to the island the golf course is on and laze on the beach there. What wife is gonna say no to that! :)

Me as I'd want to be golfing as well :)

Belek is good, but it's a 4 hour flight and there's no way you'll get a week + 5 rounds for £550. The hotels are typically 5 star all-inclusive, and while good value, they are not cheap. I was there in May - cost was about £2100pp for 13 nights and 9 rounds, flights included. Also, be warned that some of the courses do over-seeding in October which means you won't be able to have a buggy.

Someone else mentioned Mauritius. I've stayed there at the Heritage Awali during June, which was supposed to be the "dry season". What that seems to mean is that it only rains at some point every other day rather than every day. The showers tend to be brief but heavy. The course we played (Chateau du Golf) was always fairly waterlogged. The Awali was a fantastic hotel - best service I've ever experienced (in fact, at times a little *too* attentive). Costs were about on a par with Belek. Note that it's a 12 hour flight - daft to go so far for just a week. And I'd advise you to avoid Air Mauritius - very poor legroom on such a long flight.
