In need of a 3 wood...on a budget

Not sure on the model, but my bro in law picked up a callaway 3 wood used from American Golf for £25 yesterday...

2nd hand or a last year's model from AG or DG. Buying cheap doesn't neccessarily work out cheap as you may look to change it in the not too distant future.

A hardly used, year old-ish model, from the likes of Golfbidder or Ebay might be a good option...

I recently purchased a Cobra S2 Fairway from Clubhouse Golf for £49.99

I've owned TM R11, RBZ and Callaway Diablo Tours and this is the best out of the lot for all round use from both the fairway and the tee and will stay in my for a long time. It hasn't got the tink feel/noise like the Callaways or the hot face like the TM's as the ball comes off the face muted as if you've just splatted an egg, however what I will say is that it just sails away on a medium penetrating trajectory.

Distance wise I'm getting 200-210 yds off the fairway on average and 215-220 yds off the tee with a slightly higher flight off the tee.

It's a medium classic 3 wood sized head, smaller than the TM's and all I can say is that it's probably the best £50 I've spent

On a really tight budget of my mates bought the Dunlop NZ9 for £14.99 from sports direct. It has an awful lot of offset and is very closed however in terms of performance he's over the moon with it as his slice is either straight or a minute fade and he can use it off the fairway. I've had a few of hits with it and it's surprisingly good for a cheap club. With a good grip and shaft it would probably give some very good clubs a run for their money.

What is your handicap?

Plenty of classic greats to be had on a budget on Ebay - if you know what you are looking for.

The following are my picks

Callaway Steelhead or Hawkeye

TM V-Steel or 200

Sonartec GS Tour, NP99 SS1.5, 2.5,3.5 (shallow, medium, deep faced)

Tour Edge Exotics (TEE) - any

There seem to be a few TEE ones going quite reasonably - and a rather tasty looking set of their irons too!

Helpful thread for me too this as the next thing I need is a 3 wood! Looking at the Cobra S2, seems a good deal for £50! Also...my local shop seems to sell a lot of Benross stuff, I need a putter...will be Benross putter be ok, Im not familiar with the brand?

Pop in your local golf shop, I got my Cleveland Launcher DST 3 wood, brand new in the clearance bin for £29.99

Sometimes it's worth popping in to see what they have as they never seem list the last club or 2 that they have on websites
