Last Friday all was going well.

Won the fiddle at the golf club, checked out how the builders were getting on with the renovations.

Good supper and glass of red then at 8.30 pm, 'Um finger I pricked on carpet gripper 3 days ago is throbbing a bit'
Took painkillers
9.00 pm , pretty cold here best put on a jumper, feel yuk

9.30 pm, bed , dressing gown and freezing
10.15 pm wife comes to bed to find me running high temperature.

11.00 pm in A&E, nobody in there waltzed straight through.
Started throwing up, saw first Doc, looked at prick on end of finger asked how and advised go home with two Panadol.
Wife goes ballistic ( Nurse all her life and matron for 26 years )

Second doc saw finger and immediately diagnosed Flexor tendon infection http://orthopedics.about.com/od/fingerconditions/qt/Flexor-Tendon-Infections.htm.
Admitted straight away.

Threw up all night then surgery under General on Sat, intravienous antibiotics and painkillers
Monday another operation , more intravienous antibodies.

Tuesday , consultant took bandage off offending finger ( Right index) Yuk, . Must start trying to move it.IV Ab's
Up to Friday getting little more movement everyday, enough to be discharged this afternoon.Oral AB's now for at least a week

Prognosis ,Weeks of attending specialist hand therapy, may never get full closing grip on right hand, may well need skin grafts and most important NO golf for possibly 8 weeks, ARGH.

So beware of small pricks, they can lead to all sorts of complications.

Many many thanks to all those who helped me on the road to get better in the Princess Royal , Telford

PS, Consultant confirmed this would have been far far more serious had the wife and the second Dr not picked it and I'd come home .

Ooft, unlucky sounds like a right pain (no pun etc) Hope it doesn't take that long but it could have been worse.

Not good and get well & fit soon. Hope you reported the first doctor who like many at times, dismiss what they think is nothing far too easily

My obvious question is Beau Desert on the 23rd July, as that's 2 knackers I've now got in my 4-ball team on the road to recovery

This thread is useless without pict... no wait hang on ;)

Really sorry to hear that, life throws us these curve balls and all we can do is throw them back. Keep your chin up and the time will fly by. Hopefully the time out won't be as long as first thought and you'll fully heal. Get well soon!

Cheers guys.

Day of rugby watching and hand physio. Walk later to drop off chocs and thank you card and take a can of WD 40 for the squeaky drugs trolley.

Have to say the care they gave me was first class
