Had a go of the Big Bertha and the Taylor Made Jetspeed drivers at the range tonight - hit the Jetspeed first and wasn't overly impressed but what a difference with the Bertha - looked so much better at address to my eye and was so easy to hit - only had half an hour or so with them but impressed with the Callaway - most I've ever spent on a driver is £99 - think that's going to change this week - had a gulp when I looked up price on inter web just now.

Going back to try it against some other possible options tomorrow evening (Tuesday) anyone got any suggestions on what to try?

Just hitting them out into the range & judging by eye? How were the any of the drivers you tried specced to your usual shot shape, AoA, spin rate, launch angle or swing speed??

At this stage I'm just looking at standard set ups - I'll get fitted once I've narrowed it down to a couple - I know now that I prefer the look at address of the Bertha to the Jetspeed and it felt much better and was easier to hit - that's what I'm looking for at this point - I want to eliminate ones I won't like and narrow it down to a couple at most.

Okay. Get you've got to be comfortable with the look. the danger is you miss the one that if hit would provide you with the best overall results, because you dismissed it before you'd tried it though.
Would suggest if you maybes should not be looking at anything that's lower than 10.5 degrees.
Probably you should hit the Ping G25. I'd give the SLDR a go, or another go but at 11.5 degrees.

If you can get to a PGA pro that teaches & fits using a launch monitor that's a better route than a large franchised store within a range.

I have just bought a Nike Covert 2.0 driver and have to say thus far I'm hugely impressed. I trialled the first model and it never did it for me, this 2.0 model is simply better (imo) I haven't used it loads yet but I'm finding myself playing my second from shorter distances as it's hitting the ball longer and arrow straight. It's worth a look.

Cheers coach, both the G25 and SDLR are on the list of stuff to try, the ones I hit last night were 10.5 degrees and I'd agree that I probably don't need less loft than that.

If you can get your hands on one the Cleveland Classic XL Custom is a cracking driver and well worth a try. The hardest thing about hitting one of these is finding one.

I have got the G25 and love it also tried the SLDR and hated it both had regular shafts in but the difference was night and day.

Benross speed 2 range! half the price of the big brands, well worth a look! a fair few #teamboomross on here now!!

Thanks Rooter - the place I'm trying out the G25 and SLDR vs Big Bertha doesn't do Benross but my local pro does - I'm out for a round on Thursday so will ask him if I can get a demo speed 2 to trial

Well worth a try at least, i was surprised that a 12deg regular shaft (hot speed i think) was the best for me! coming from an R1 at 10deg with an Xstiff was a little bit different! but my swing has changed so much in 12 months it was needed!

They do 3 lofts i think, 10,12 and 14 with a decent variety of aldila shafts. good luck!

Ive a Callaway Xhot and thats a great driver, can be purchased cheap too as the have the Xhot2 out. Local shops to me have them for £99 new with project X and Prolaunch red shafts in.

I had a go last week with a mates big bertha 3 wood, the head felt very heavy, much prefer my Xhot.

Thought of having a shot of the Xhot 2 but was a bit put off by reading about it having 1/2 inch longer shaft and the tangerine and black graphics

AG have them in MK for 100 notes

I got fitted for the bertha alpha with gm and it is honestly one hell of a driver, so much easier to control and and carries a lot more than my old R1 and I really liked the R1 but the bertha urinates all over it :)
Iv posted a few pic on twitter of my gps where iv carried it 300 yards.

Yea it cost a bomb to buy but if your a serious golfer like most of us then its worth every penny

Found the BB a very good driver - visually it's stunning - love the look of the shaft but performance wise , the SLDR won hands down for me

I hit the BB and Alpha on Friday and they are excellent drivers. I'm not in the market and it was just that Cally were doing a demo at the place I have my lessons and I had a playing lesson booked. I'd try a few rather than limit it to just the BB
