Has anyone done it? What are the import tax/charges I should expect? Have my eye on an nice Tour Edge fairway wood on a reputable US ebay sellers list, and whilst the shipping price is clear and upfront, I'm clueless as to further costs? Anyone know?

Cheers

I was told by a putter company yesterday that USPS are no longer shipping to the UK, if that is true you have problems as they are usually the cheapest by a long long way.

Add 60usd for shipping
Add 20% for tax
Add perhaps 4% for currency loss, you will get a crappy rate v the headline
Add a long wait
Add 12 quid to tell you tax is due
Add making it impossible to return
Add is it really worth it

200usd club

becomes just over 320usd top of my noggin

USPS are still shipping to UK, I'm awaiting a parcel. I would always recommend that you pay extra for UPS or FedEx as you'll be quicker rowing a boat across the Atlantic and back than USPS will be.

USPS are a joke.

Back on track most eBay companies now allow you to prepay the customs charges at checkout which means you know what you are paying in advance.

It used to be a way of getting kit that was not available in UK for quite reasonable prices.

However, that is no longer the case!

The numbers 351D.. posted seem about right!

USPS are a joke.

Unfortunately it was no laughing matter when they simply RTS-ed the parcel I sent to the US - when the recipient wasn't home! It subsequently 'got lost' somewhere in the system! So I ended up out of pocket and lost the rather nice Bettinardi!

Bought a set of Titleist 735CMs from one of the US big preowned/2nd hand outlets, did work it all out beforehand re customs/duty etc and with a terrific exchange rate of ca. $2 for £1 around 2007 it worked out a good saving, they were in beautiful condition. Delivery was pretty quick too. Positive experience.

Can't see with todays duff exchange rate how you're going to come out ahead though.

I bought a 5 iron off ebay from usa cause it worked out cheaper even with the postage. The club was like £15, the postage was £20 and then when it came i got hit with £30 import charges. Turns out it wasnt that cheap after all.

I would say a good rule of thumb is this, work out loosely what you will pay (multiply the dollar price x 1.55 and you will be close)

if that price is still a massive and obvious bargain buy it, if you are not sure, do not.
