I remember that cartoon image from years ago when Japan was showing us how to do manufacturing;
Image 1 - a boat race style boat with 10 oarsmen and one guy with a loudhailer
Image 2 - the GB boat, 1 oarsman and 10 'managers' with loudhailers!

Without trying to open a can of worms, the problem is, the majority of immigrants, certainly from the likes of Poland actually want to get out and graft. I can only speak from my own experiences in NHS recruitment but for the portering, catering and HCA roles at the lower end, it is the Poles in particular that apply and get through the interviews. I think we're raising a society where benefits is the easy option

I work in the mining industry which is going tits up big style, anyway we had a new safety engineer who had worked his way up through the ranks and used the telly sat work to show pictures which related to safety. Some were really funny some were downright stupid but the one thing they all did was make you think about safety.
anyway a year or so later, some office clown decided it was not the done thing to mock someone's safety or lack of it, so the telly was used for boring stats and no one paid any attention.
at the next safety day it opened up with a clip of hale and pace and Yorkshire airways. I asked what was the point of that and they said that humour attracts peoples attention to get a point over. So I asked if that was the case why take it off the telly for 364 days a year and just use it for one on the safety day. Cue the tumbleweed moment.
