I'm Sorry - Did I break your concentration?

Have you ever had a round where something has disturbed your rhythm and you cannot clear your mind and shake it off?

So I'm out today, and played 1 and 2 ok, scoring some points, got to 3 and sliced a fairway into a water hazard - no problem as its SI 3, so still a chance to score. Dropped and chipped out to leave a SW into the green, just about to fire and heard what I thought was a massive clash of thunder, unusual as the clouds showed no indication? I ended up pulling the wedge left of the green and blobbing the hole. Next is a par three, hit a nice 4i dead straight onto the green leaving a nice uphill 12 footer. As I was on the green ready to putt, an air Ambulance flew over me at 200 ft altitude and seemed to set down nearby - I ended up three putting for a bogey, which was a little bit disappointing. Tee-ed off ok on the next hole and was just in the first cut for my approach shot, not unusual for that hole. Then for the next three holes every time I was playing an iron or putting, I heard sirens from emergency vehicles, I must of fatted about 6 iron shots. I realised that there must have been a crash on a nearby motorway and I couldn't stop thinking about it, I parred these 4 holes last week scoring 13, 5 this week!

Have you ever something that has broken your concentration to a level that disturbs your rhythm? I'm usually reasonably good at maintaining focus, but this had me rattled today. Still great to be out there though!!

Only laughing.... when you get one of Smiffy's nuggets of wisdom just as you address the ball and you can feel the grin literally pulling at the corners of your mouth then you're dead, it's all you can do to get the club on the ball.

My golf performance is often a reflection of what else is happening to/around me.

I've found travelling for more than an hour to golf normally means a poor round,

And thinking about the unknowns of events like in the OP don't help at all. Better to be involved in the golf than the smash though!

One of the courses I play is surrounded by farmland,at certain times of the year the farmer uses a crow scarer. So every 15mins or so you ear what sounds like a shot gun.

Just gotta live with it.
None of us are playing the Tour so background noise is part and parcel of the game.
We have cows mooing, "fore" shouts on a regular basis and there's a regular shooting party in the woods not too far away.

More locally, the vast majority of members are pretty courteous during the round but you also get a few loudmouths, quite a bit of loud laughter and the occasional trouser cough from some playing partners!

Had a group walk past the pro shop as I was playing the 10th in a comp recently. Despite seeing I was ready to tee off they kept on chatting. They stopped as I gave them my best "Monty" stare but never got comfy and carved one way right. Good feel the anger rising and lost interest after not scoring on the hole. Couldn't get it out of my head and mucked up the next too.

I think im one of those odd people that doesnt really take notice of people whispering, crackling of wrappers, bag clatter, voices carrying on the wind from adjacent holes, players squeezing water from plastic bottles, Rooting for stuff in their bags,....

None of that seems to bother me at all for some reason but im always conscious that its going on....It just doesnt bother me...

I noticed I don't play well after a long drive to the course. We have a midweek comp which I can only get to after work, and its near enough a one hour drive door to door. It might sound daft but I've been playing much better lately just by concentrating on the ball, nothing else, just the ball and swinging smoothly. But for some strange reason, after that long drive to the midweek comp I find the simple basic step of simply focusing on a ball remarkable difficult, perhaps its a near/far distance thing and it takes the eyes some time to acclimatise - usually by about the seventh hole!! :D

The only time I've really had this was playing with a chap who was very nice but a bit too chatty at times like while your addressing the ball!
Every shot he would continue talking until I started my back swing. Even after a couple of stares, a cough while stepping off the ball and I even asked him to stop talking when I walked up to the tee he continued to do it. After a couple of holes of frustration I started to block it out and played ok afterwards.
