Just signed up for an experiment run by Close House Golf & Speedflex (http://speedflex.com), both owned by the same individual. You have your swing measured,do 8 weeks of twice weekly exercises on the Speedflex low impact machines & then get measured again. Looking forward to hitting it 330 instead of a puny 300! The induction was promising, at least I wasn't the worst. Our group included a young pro with a bigger belly than me and another young guy who had to go outside & be sick after he finished. Very high tech, you do all the exercises wearing a heart monitor, with the results displayed on a big screen.

It's all free. They asked for 10 volunteers and got 104! At least they might have 10 who finish the 8 weeks, including me, if I don't finish up in coronary care first.

I'll post progress reports.

Not being funny, but as someone who is studying physical education and physical activity at university, I can't see an 8 week programme of strength and flexibility increasing your distance by more than 1%.

Should be interesting to see if this does work.

Bleedin' 'eck!

If I spent 2 months training and didn't get a significant benefit I'd be extremely unhappy!

The fact that it's sufficiently energetic to have someone having to go outside to throw up indicates it's robust enough! Though if there were HRMs etc involved, I'd be a little concerned that they didn't highlight a problem before it got to that stage!

Put me down as 'interested' too! I've re-developed a paunch from not enough physical activity for the beer/bad food intake recently!

That's my feeling too. According to the owner they've already had "astonishing" results. But it's free so I'm willing to give it 90 minutes per week to see what happens. Can't see me doing it any longer, mind you, 24 mile round trip and 5 hours a week, can't be bothered.

You've inspired me! I'm going to wander 200yds down the road to the local park where there are some (vandal-proof) machines. Been threatening to do this for a while, but always found an excuse.

It's about halfway to the pub too!

Be interesting to hear how you get on.

Some British 'Dr' & now Tv producer has done some research with some research institutions over here for a UK TV show & book (I think that's true though obviously not seen the program or seen or read the book either) into how fast short bursts of intensive exercise is of more value to a person than long exercise regimes & it produces a deal better results.

Just make sure you don't end up in the Emergency Room. Good luck

I've read numerous articles about the differences of golf training. There are 2 ways to go; weight training vs flexibility.

If you do a quick search, it should provide you guys a good starting block on which to begin. For example, Jimenez vs Dustin Johnson's training regimes.

Make sure you warm up first, some dynamic stretching is always good.
